I meant the reporters would get it from them. They wouldn't volunteer the info. They would certainly have no reason to hide it. This isn't football.

Didn't Pods just have a minor hamstring problem last year....and it resulted in him being on the DL for about 20 days? Also, the fact that they're having their "shoulder doctors" come read the MRI is interesting. If the MRI was clean, they could just read that via satellite.

Fathom, isn't Jerry Owens best suited to take Pod's lead off role?  My God, two rookie OF on a defending WS team.  One other thing to bounce off you, Alex Cintron looked fantastic on TV last night.  If Iguchi struggles could you see Cintron at short and Uribi at 2nd?

I think Ozzie would be more comfortable going with Mackowiak in LF, and maybe throwing Ozuna out there on occasion. Cintron's going to get a lot of playing time this season. It wouldn't shock me if he gets nearly 300 ABs filling in at 2b and SS.

The team doesn't know. That's why they're getting the MRI.

But there's no reason for the team to let this slip, to get everyone worried, until they KNOW something's wrong -- doesn't mean they don't suspect something's wrong. Pods doesn't sound too good if he can't swing at the very start of the season.

Iguchi will be at second unless he is hitting under .200 in mid May.

I'm definitely not saying it will happen, but I bet we would have said something last year like "Shingo will be the closer unless his ERA is above 6 in May". I think it's important for Iguchi's confidence to get off to a hot start. He's going to try and change the way he approach his ABs this season, and if you struggle doing that at the beginning, then you get all out of whack.

Whats even more disturbing is that its going to be his second MRI. Which means they have no damn clue what it is. If its a tear, we are in trouble.

I'm not going to worry about our healthy starting 2nd baseman with a solid backup in Cintron and even Ozuna after him. Podsednik, Hermanson and his possible replacement, and the second lefty candidates are far bigger problems to worry about right now.

Thankfully, we have a very deep offensive bench this season. I'd have no problem with Mackowiak and Cintron having to get more ABs earlier in the season. You could argue that their production could rival Pods (besides the whole stolen base aspect).

And as for Hermanson....well, I never expected any contribution from him this year, so it's not surprising.

We'll be fine.......Thome looks better than I could have imagined right now.

I personally think they are checking to make sure his arm doesn't fall off.

The question is if it is inflammation in the muscle or joint.

Yep, with Mackowiak, Cintron, and even Ozuna -- Hermanson's health and possible replacement and the second lefty candidates are far bigger concerns.

Urbina needs to break out of jail or something.

I think they are checking because if it was just a strain or something small it would be better by now, its not, therefore they think its something worse, which means its something worse. I'm not saying I'm just saying

By the way, Antonio Osuna pitched another scoreless inning with 1 strikeout for Mexico against Japan today. So far in the WBC, he has pitched 2 scoreless innings with 3 strikeouts and has yet to give up a hit or a walk.

Jphat....all we're saying is that this seems more than just the "sore" shoulder that Pods was portraying the injury as. Sore shoulders make it very hard to swing the bat, and that seems to be what is worrying Pods right now. At least this isn't one of our starting pitchers who are complaining about a sore shoulder (knock on wood).

LOL. My bad. I didn't know that you knew how long it took for an inflammed shoulder to improve. You an MD or a DO?

Podsednik remains confident that the problem is shoulder inflammation in the muscle and not in the joint.

It is inflammation. They said the only question is if it is in the muscle or the joint. Pods thinks it is in the joint. They are getting a second MRI to determine where the inflammation is ocurring. They can give him a shot to get rid of the pain if need be, but obviously they would like to know where the inflammation is occuring first, which is why they need to inject the dye and then take the MRI.

All of that taken from the story. Not guessing.

stop it, they are injecting with dye this time. That is used to determine and see if there is a small tear which would not have shown up on the first MRI. It maybe nothing, but if it just a strain or a sore shoulder it would have cleared up in 10 ten days.

Is Podsednik an MD or a DO?

Hmm. Should I go on his opinion or the opinion of somebody who has not diagnosed Pods at all. Hmmm. I wonder if Herm told him anything at all or just left him in the dark...

Seriously. All it takes is a little bit of reading the story.

All I know is that Podsednik hasn't been playing at all this ST. There is a reason for concern, regardless of what anyone thinks. Let's not be lemming Cubs fans and assume that Prior and Wood will be healthy to start the season.
