Gene Honda Civic
QUOTE(RME JICO @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 11:19 PM) Unfortunately Pods is a hard player to replace. If he is not 100%, then they need to give Owens a shot. QUOTE(toasty @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 11:28 PM) if pods is dl'ed for start of season, might ozzie leave the bench players in place and give ryan sweeny some time in the OF, provided he continues to perform well in ST? Depends on what they do with the bullpen situation. You have to figure that Gload or Borchard would be included in a package for a reliever. And if one of them was traded, and Pods couldn't go, Owens would probably come north. If Gload and Borchard aren't traded, and Pods is a no-go, Owens will start in AAA. It will give KW more time to shop Gload/Borch. And maybe even allow him to slip one of them through waivers once Pods is due to come back off the DL. LosMediasBlancas
QUOTE(BamaDoc @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 11:43 PM) I have two herniated discs and have had about 8 epidurals over 8 years. No two backs are the same and anyone who tells you they know exactly what will happen is full of it. Some people do great, some get nothing. I would however be checking into backup plans. Interesting. Sure, some people do great, as in they can go back to living a normal life with a lot less pain. We're talking about a guy that's needs to be doing well enough to play pro sports. Anything is possible, but the odds are against him and as Coop said it could flare up at any time.
Dick Allen
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 09:12 PM) It is inflammation. They said the only question is if it is in the muscle or the joint. Pods thinks it is in the joint. They are getting a second MRI to determine where the inflammation is ocurring. They can give him a shot to get rid of the pain if need be, but obviously they would like to know where the inflammation is occuring first, which is why they need to inject the dye and then take the MRI. All of that taken from the story. Not guessing. So Dr. jphat007, what you are saying is they don't know exactly where the pain is coming from, enough pain to keep him from playing, but they do know that it isn't serious. How do they come to this conclusion?

How do they come to this conclusion? LOL. Our head trainer said it doesn't appear serious. I think I am going to trust his diagnosis over yours if you don't mind. Every story that came out this morning said the same thing. We actually saw some info that said he could be in the lineup this week, but nowhere did it say anything about longterm. Hmmm.... Yep, and Jim Hendry was on the radio last week saying Prior would be ready to go during the first series of their year. The prognosis sounds good right now, and that's more important than any argument we can have about injuries or replacements, etc.
SSH2005
http://www.suntimes.com/output/sox/cst-spt-sox15.html Sox await Pods' MRI, put Plan B in motion March 15, 2006 BY JOE COWLEY Staff Reporter TUCSON, Ariz. -- Ozzie Guillen still is hopeful that the news concerning injured outfielder Scott Podsednik will be good, but just in case, the White Sox' manager has Plan B already in place. Since Podsednik last played in a Cactus League game March 6, a sore left shoulder that has hampered him throughout the spring has kept the Sox' leadoff hitter on the shelf. Trainer Herm Schneider said Tuesday that Podsednik had a second MRI performed Monday, and the results are expected today. "[Today] will be a big day because we'll get the report,'' Schneider said. "One of our shoulder guys is coming in from Chicago. We'll be able to put all the pieces of the puzzle that we've got together.'' Meanwhile, Guillen's Plan B involves a three-man rotation of Ross Gload, Joe Borchard and Jerry Owens getting as much playing time in left field as possible in the next week. While Rob Mackowiak would be the every-day starter in place of Podsednik, Guillen would need one of those three to show he also can handle the duties in left. Gload started there Monday and played the entire game. Owens got the nod Tuesday. "Jerry Owens, Borchard is there, Gload -- I'll be playing all those guys in left field over the next week and see what happens,'' Guillen said. "Mackowiak would probably be the one that starts if the season was beginning. Pods should be ready, but Plan B is having one of those three guys ready just in case.'' Podsednik has been going through his normal drills each day but said the pain of swinging a bat is still a concern. "It's rough for me to get the bat through the zone,'' he said. "I can't stay through the ball. I can't hit the ball up the middle. I can't hit the ball the other way. "They are not concerned that it's anything serious. It's outside the joint. We are dealing with muscles, so it's good news.'' The Sox better hope so. They were a different team last August when Podsednik went on the disabled list with a groin strain, posting a 5-9 record in that stint. Podsednik wasn't the only Sox player spending time with Schneider, either, as the back problems of reliever Dustin Hermanson continued to receive extra attention. Hermanson had the first of three epidurals on Tuesday and will receive one each of the next two Tuesdays. "We set him up with a pain specialist, and we'll try and just work on pain,'' Schneider said. "Hopefully it helps him. We really don't have a lot to lose, and a lot to gain.'' In other words, it's an injury that won't be getting better for Hermanson. It comes down to him dealing with the pain all year. "He worked hard in the winter, but he didn't pitch in the winter,'' Schneider said. "The moment of truth is when you pitch. Not even throwing side days or batting practice, but when you pitch and really need to go after a hitter in an opposing uniform. That seems to bother him.'' Hermanson had Tuesday off but could be back on the mound as early as Thursday if the first epidural relieved some of the pain. "Hermanson's not a surprise to me,'' Schneider said. "I had to deal with it every day last year. Did you think it was just going to go away? I just wasn't sure when it was going to surface, and it surfaced early. "I can nurse him through it all year, but he'll have to want to go through it.'' Edited March 15, 2006 by SSH2005

I said it is not as serious as fathom made it out to be in his first post, as has been corroborated by all of the stories last night and this morning. Ozzie is talking about a Plan B because the reporters asked him what he would do if Pods was out opening day. That has no bearing on how serious it is. He wouldn't be a good manager if he didn't have a plan for most any situation. But hey, if you want to believe it's more serious and Pods arm is going to fall off, go for it. Ignore all the facts and tell yourself otherwise. Makes no difference to me.

Wanne
Can anybody verify this...I had heard or read somewhere that Pods hurt his shoulder in the offseason lifting weights. Is this true or bs? In some ways it makes sense...little dude lifting free weights. I'll tell ya what...I can do every machine known to man training...but as soon as I do free weights or a smith for shoulders...my friggin left shoulder kills me. I just heard the score say they've seen the MRI and it's just a strain. whoops... Lets see.....he has a strained muscle that's making it difficult for him to swing the bat. He hasn't gotten a lot of reps in ST so far. Given that's it will be freezing in Chicago the opening week. I'm just not that sure we're going to rush him back for opening week.
