jphat007
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 09:14 PM) All I know is that Podsednik hasn't been playing at all this ST. There is a reason for concern, regardless of what anyone thinks. Let's not be lemming Cubs fans and assume that Prior and Wood will be healthy to start the season. Yah, lets just ignore the facts in the story and say that Pods is going to miss opening day ! Let's ignore what Pods says about his own body and draw our own conclusions jsut for the hell of it. This reminds me of the Buerhle episode last spring. Only they actually SAID he'd be out 4-6 weeks. Edited March 15, 2006 by jphat007
fathom
Jphat.....read any medical book, and you'll know that joint inflammation can be due to injury of nearby tendons, etc. There's no doubt he has inflammation.....they're just trying to see what's causing it. Mark Prior thought he was fine until today. Now he is off to see an elbow specialist. When Podsednik is swinging the stick toward the end of ST and playing on opening day, then I will feel fine. Flash Tizzle
Admist all this speculation concerning Pods' shoulder inflammation, I'd like to add this quote to the mix concerning our bullpen. "We are looking for relievers and right now, they all [stink]. The opportunity is there and nobody wants to grab it."--Guillen It's so true. Certaintly can lend someone to wonder whether Logan really does have an opportunity to make the roster. I still don't agree it's probable, but knowing him, nothing can be ruled out. This issue is obvious irritating Guillen enough to publically criticize those competing.

jphat007
Leadoff hitter Scott Podsednik had a second MRI exam Monday, this one showing contrast, on his left shoulder and will visit Wednesday with a shoulder specialist flying in from Chicago. Depending on the outcome, he could get his first at-bat since March 6 later this week. "It doesn't seem like there's anything seriously wrong with [Podsednik], but we're doing all the studies to help him feel more comfortable with what's going on," trainer Herm Schneider said. chicagosports.com Edited March 15, 2006 by jphat007

LosMediasBlancas
I'm not a Dr., but I do have a herniated disc in my back that I have spoken with a lot of Dr.s about and I can tell you epidurals=not good. This is usually the last step before major back surgery, like disc removal or disc fusion. Hermy's probably done.

BamaDoc
I have two herniated discs and have had about 8 epidurals over 8 years. No two backs are the same and anyone who tells you they know exactly what will happen is full of it. Some people do great, some get nothing. I would however be checking into backup plans. It wasn't until Pods got hurt last year they we went on our slide. I don't think that was any coincidence. We need him at 100% to maximize this team's full potential. greg775
Too bad about Hermy. Out outfield could really be different this year without Pods out there and w/out Aaron.
RME JICO
Unfortunately Pods is a hard player to replace. If he is not 100%, then they need to give Owens a shot.
toasty
if pods is dl'ed for start of season, might ozzie leave the bench players in place and give ryan sweeny some time in the OF, provided he continues to perform well in ST?

Mackowiak would probably get the playing time and they could keep Borchard or Owens as an extra outfielder.
