knightni
This could be the Achilles Heel that will keep the Sox from repeating.

I feel A LOT better after listening to Herm break it down. I'm extremely relieved that it seems Hermanson's problem is simply pain and discomfort. There's nothing seriously wrong. I thought he might require some surgery. Edited March 16, 2006 by Jordan4life_2006
SSH2005
http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...t=.jsp&c_id=cws Notes: Contreras scratched from start Right-hander's tricep irritation is concern for White Sox By Josh Weinfuss / Special to MLB.com TUCSON, Ariz. -- The injury bug hit the White Sox again Wednesday. With both Scott Podsednik and Dustin Hermanson already out, Jose Contreras was scratched from his start against the Rockies because of inflammation and irritation in his lower right tricep near the elbow. Contreras noticed the injury Tuesday afternoon after his daily workout, he said through his interpreter, third base coach Joey Cora. White Sox trainer Herm Schneider said the injury, called a contractor, is a "little concerning," but a "freak little thing," and he expects it to calm down "nicely." It irritates Contreras when his arm flexes and the tricep extends over the traction spur. A precautionary X-ray came back negative. Schneider said the irritation could subside and then Contreras could be back throwing as soon as that happens. Contreras joins Podsednik and Hermanson as ailing White Sox. On Tuesday, Podsednik had two MRIs on his sore left shoulder, one regular and one with contrast, and both came back inconclusive. However the MRIs did reveal "some" tendinitis, Schneider said. Podsednik also received a cortisone shot to help speed up the rehabilitation. The plan is for Podsednik to start working out again on Friday. Whatever work Podsednik starts won't affect the injury, Schneider said. "It'll resolve itself and Scotty will move forward without any problems at all," he added. Hermanson is scheduled to throw a doctor-approved side session on Friday after he received an epidural shot on Tuesday. It was the first in a series of three shots, the next two scheduled for March 21 and 28. According to Schneider, Hermanson felt better thanks to the epidural, which was given to control the pitcher's back pain caused by loose ligaments. The injury is called a one percent instability and only affects Hermanson when he pitches. "We're just trying to manage the discomfort that he's having," Schneider said. Proving himself: Minor Leaguer Boone Logan is making his case for the open left-handed specialist spot in the White Sox bullpen. In his third "official" outing of the spring on Wednesday, Logan threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings and allowed one hit, as he tries to prove that he can make the jump from Class A to the Major Leagues. In Logan's two previous outings, he's totaled three scoreless innings. In a "B" game on March 5, the rookie struck out three, including Rob Mackowiak and Jim Thome. "I know I can handle it. That's no question," Logan said of pitching in the Majors. "The way you're seeing me pitch right now, that's what you're going to be seeing most of the time. I know I can handle the role." And manager Ozzie Guillen agrees. He said Logan has a good shot at going to Chicago when the Sox break camp. "I like what I see. He throws strikes," Guillen said. "He did a tremendous job. Right now he's going to be the talk of the next couple of days." So close: Tied 4-4, with two outs in the top of the ninth on Wednesday, it looked like a slew of non-roster invitees were going to help snap the White Sox three-game losing streak. Darren Blakely doubled home pinch-runner Robert Valido to give the White Sox a 5-4 lead. A Josh Fields single moved Valido to third, and Angel Gonzalez knocked him in for a 6-4 advantage. In the bottom of the ninth, the Rockies lit up the Sox Dwayne Pollock. Four consecutive doubles drove in Jeff Baker, Luis Gonzalez and JD Closser to extend the White Sox losing streak to four with a 7-6 loss. Offensive struggles: Partially to blame for the Sox loss was the inability for four everyday players to produce at the plate. Paul Konerko went 1-for-5, his only hit a double in the third. Jermaine Dye followed him with a 1-for-4 day, including a two-run homer in the third, scoring Konerko. A.J. Pierzynski also struggled at the plate, going 1-for-3, but he scored a run, and Tadahito Iguchi went 0-for-3. Hitting Joes: Joe Crede and Joe Borchard both went 2-for-3. With the productive day, Crede improved his batting average to .190. Jenks: When it rains it pours. Having not allowed a run all spring, Bobby Jenks gave up three in his one inning of work on Wednesday. He allowed just two hits, but walked three of the eight batters he faced. Thome's fine: After getting hit in the elbow in the third inning of Tuesday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Schneider said Thome is pain free. On Wednesday, Thome's day off, he was in the training room with Schneider at 7 a.m. for his daily treatment on his back and elbow. The first baseman told Schneider he didn't feel any pain from getting hit the day before. Up next: After a day off Thursday, the White Sox will send lefty Mark Buehrle (0-1, 3.27 ERA) in search of his first Spring Training win to the mound against the Texas Rangers' Juan Dominguez on Friday. Game time is 2:05 p.m. CT

This sounds totally different from disc trouble.

YASNY
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 01:56 PM) I think there are very few athletes that were able to do much after back surgery. Scottie Pippen is one I know of, but if you know anyone who has had back surgery, they usually are still a little screwed up after the procedure. I had an uncle, since departed, that while working on a pickup truck had it fall on him and break his back. He went through some tough times, but was eventually was able to hold a job as a framing carpenter. That includes all the manual labor expected, including manually packing 2x10 or 2x12 floor joists, 4x8 sheets of plywood and carrying bundles of shingles up a ladder and placing them on the roof. I did this job for 5 years and it is very labor intensive, including a lot of bending over for extended periods of time.
