Sox1422
Thornton looks pretty bad http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7212 Ross Gload is happy today.
fathom
At least Thornton's consistent. Lefties had a WHIP of 1.69 vs him, and righties had a WHIP of 1.68. He's not very good.
fathom
Quite disappointing that we held on to Borchard so long that all we could get is a mediocre reliever that makes Marte look like he has pinpoint control. Oh well.
RockRaines
Waste of a trade IMO. Guess Gload couldnt net us s*** in the trade market. Edited March 20, 2006 by RockRaines

fathom
BTW, kudos to everyone (JimH, etc.) who predicted Borchard wouldn't make the roster this season.
fathom
QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 04:28 PM) Longest Homer in USCF history: Joe Borchard I thought that was Hawk's nose?
bschmaranz
I guess they obviously weren't planning on keeping him on the roster so Kenny got SOMETHING for him. Who knows, if Coop can help this guy with his control he might be SOMETHING.
WCSox
QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 08:28 AM) Longest Homer in USCF history: Joe Borchard Biggest bust in White Sox history: Joe Borchard Given what we got for him, it appears that Seattle's scouts have been doing their homework. SSH2005
Pretty sad that's all the trade value that Borchard had. :banghead This Thornton guy looks like he has no control whatsoever. Meanwhile, the Mariners look like they now have a fallback plan for Everett at DH.

Who knows, if Coop can help this guy with his control he might be SOMETHING. Yeah, he better work his magic. Looks like he sucked in the minor leagues as well. This doesn't guarantee Thornton a spot on the roster does it? I was kind of looking forward to them giving Logan a shot at it.
whitesoxfan101
Goodbye and good riddance LTP. It's not like Borchard or Gload were worth s*** in a trade anyways, hopefully Gload has a nice year for us.
SSH2005
Wow, Thornton was a 1st round pick in 1998 (22nd overall). Sounds like he may be as big of a bust as Borchie.
southsider2k5
I'm kinda sad to see Borch go, as he was a truely nice guy, and I really wanted to see him feed some crow to some of the more bitter anti-Joe crowd. Hopefully he does something in Seattle, and we can here about how Kenny was stupid to make that deal...
southsideirish71
clocked as high as 97mph with no control maybe coop can get him under control ala Jenks. This is a low risk/high reward type move for the sox. If they can get him under control sometime this year, he has a hell of an arm.

I'm not too worried about us regretting letting him go.

This is a low risk/high reward type move for the sox. If they can get him under control sometime this year, he has a hell of an arm. I've seen him pitch a lot, and he's more in the 92 mph range consistently. He does have a very good arm though. I think we faced him in his MLB debut as a starter, and only beat him cause of control issues.
SSH2005
Borchard isn't going to get any playing time with Seattle unless one or two of Ibanez, Reed, Ichiro, Everett, or Lawton gets injured.

Balta1701
Is there any chance there's a PTBNL attached to this deal somewhere?
