SSH2005
Well, hopefully Carrillo will be ready to join the rotation in a year or two, so we could save some money by trading Garland. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why did they pass on him again?

There's no chance in hell he'll ever revert to his former self, which he has been for the majority of his career! I think Contreras will be fine. It might take him a couple of outings to get comfortable mentally. From the reports in the media, it sure sounds like he was shaken up from the pain he had in his tricep/elbow. WTF did you expect? The important part was there was no pain so they didn't have to shut him down in the middle of the outing. From the reports in the media, it sure sounds like he was shaken up from the pain he had in his tricep/elbow. I think he'll be fine too... depending on how you define "fine". I'm looking for a mid-4's ERA out of him, and 13-15 wins. For Contreras, I think thats fine, but others might disagree.

SSH2005
It could be worse. We could have El Duque as our #2 starter. Latest News Mar. 25, 2006 - 4:42 pm et Orlando Hernandez will open the season as the Diamondbacks' No. 2 starter, manager Bob Melvin said Saturday. Following Opening Day starter Brandon Webb and El Duque will be Miguel Batista and Russ Ortiz. Melvin wasn't ready to declare a winner for the fifth spot. Claudio Vargas and Brad Halsey will keep battling.

First time pitching from that angle since his last castuc start and first time pitching in a game at all since then. I actually figured he'd have more walks than that. But he went out and looked better the last two according to Hawk and struck out 4 in his last 2 IP.

No, I wouldn't, because trading him would have filled a need for the team. And even if he had another season like '05 (3.61 ERA, 15 wins), it wouldn't matter, since he's like 45 years old, and will be a FA after this year (and when he becomes one, we don't get compensation) so trading him and getting anything of value in return is a good deal. Well, without that "45" year old, we're on 89 years without a title. And you don't trade a guy that started game 1 of the ALDS, ALCS and World Series just because. Man, I'm glad some of you guys aren't the gm.

The Sox extended him 3 years with the first year probably a little below market value, the second probably a little above, and the third probably what it should be if he has 2 more seasons like last year. This contract just screams of one KW is going to use to try and lure cheaper players and prospects. A lot obviously depends on how he and the team do in 2006. If the season is a dissapointment for the Sox, I wouldn't be surprised to see the sold out season ticket base to take a big step backwards, which could mean Contreras and Garland could both be gone, with McCarthy and either a free agent or Cotts as their replacements. The same can be said for Blum (agruably, since those games were in Houston), Everett (no other DH option), Rowand, El Duque (arguably, you never know what happens in that Boston series if he doesn't perform his magic), Thomas (the team was at its best when he played) etc. etc. etc.
