Final Four

Recommended Posts

With Florida and LSU, I don't think you could get two more comparable teams. Both have dominant frontcourts, point guards that can fill it up, and supporting guards that do a specific thing and do it very well. Florida has Lee Humphrey as an outside specialist, while LSU has Garret Temple as a defensive specialist. Both teams have a 4 man frontcourt rotation, with two big's getting the majority of the minutes. Both team's frontcourt tandem's average 4 or more blocks a game combined.

I would say Darrell Mitchell > Taurean Green, both from season statistics and from post-season play, atleast what I have seen. But I would give Florida the slight edge in depth, as they have had 8-9 guys that have been getting minutes in the tourney compared to 6-7 for LSU. Overall, I'm going with Florida over LSU in a brilliant finale.

Ok I guess after further review I was wrong.  Mitchell numberswise is by far the superior guard on offense, however in terms of guard depth, Florida BLOWS LSU away.

Taurean Green averages 13.4 and 5 dimes a game, Lee Humphrey is at 10.7 and 2 dimes a game, and Brewer (who can play guard or forward) averages 12.6, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.4 dimes a game.  Also, all have plus dime/turnover ratios.

Darrel Mitchell is the only LSU guard that averages more than 5 points a game.  He averages 17 a game along with 4 and a half dimes and 3 turnovers a game.  He also shoots a solid 44 percent from the field and 40 from the arc.  The thing with Mitchell is his shot has really been off this tournament since the perimeter defense is ALL OVER HIM since no other LSU guards have any offensive game at all.

I think you underestimate Garrett Temple. Does he score a lot? No. But he's a stopper on the other end. He's frustrated the likes of Steve Burtt, Acie Law, Redick and both of Texas' starting guards. I wouldn't dismiss him.

He can't guard everybody. Florida is the most balanced team probably in the entire tournament next to UConn and Texas, who are both gone.

I didn't say he could guard everybody. It just seems as if you're dismissing him because he doesn't score a lot.

Gene Honda

I was so excited just to hear him.

This game is bothering me, I win 165 extra bucks seperate from my pool winnings if Florida wins it all but I just can't cheer against GMU.

I was at the Illinois/Arizona elite 8 game in Rosemont last year. I completely lost track of where I was for a few minutes as he introduced the lineups that day and started thinking White Sox for a few minutes.

Mason is fortunate to only be down 5.

Hanging around as usual, now they'll start hitting some 3's in the 2nd half and it'll be a different team. They'll either lose by 2 or 3 or win this game.

They've been a 2nd half team all tournament. They should be fine.

Double jinx.

If any of these games end with winners' score ending in "0" and the losers' ending in "3", I win $250. If it happens in the champ. game I win $1000. Consolation I guess for my bracket being shambles.
