GoRowand33
QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 03:34 PM) Studies have shown that the lungs of a person who smokes for years then quits return to normal within 1 year. Cillia regenerate making this possible. Also within a year the risk of coronary disease is reduced dramatically, and within 5 years the risk of stroke is that of a person who has never smoked. "How Quickly Do the Benefits of Quitting Start?" * "Just 20 minutes after your last cigarette, your blood pressure and pulse rate drop to normal and the body temperature of your hands and feet increases to normal." * "A mere 8 hours after your last smoke, the carbon monoxide level decreases and the oxygen level in your blood increases to normal." * "Just 24 hours after your last cigarette, you substantially lessen your chances of having a heart attack." * "Two days after your last cigarette, you will notice that your ability to taste and smell is enhanced." * "Three days later, your breathing should be noticeably better because your lung capacity will be greater." * "Your circulation will improve and your lung functioning will increase up to 30% within two weeks to three months after quitting." * "Between one month and nine months, the cilia in your lungs will regenerate, allowing your body to clean your lungs and reduce infection." * "One year after quitting, your risk of coronary heart disease is half that of a smoker." * "Five years after quitting, your risk of stroke is reduced to that of a nonsmoker." * "Ten years after quitting, the lung cancer death rate is about half that of a continuing smokers. The risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, kidney and pancreas decreases." * "Fifteen years after quitting, your risk of coronary heart disease is that of a nonsmokers. SouthSide2004
QUOTE(Soxfest @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 11:42 PM) Good ban the ramps next year! Everyone here understands that smoking is bad for them. But this is the type of s*** that makes every smoker feel like they are the offspring of Satan. I understand if you have a problem with smoking, but please try to be rational. I can't possibly see how people smoking on the ramps of the Cell could have any effect on you.

mr_genius
do know what is more annoying than someone smoking next to me? a fat person sitting next to me... i hate that so much, they stink and are always in contact with me because they can't fit in a seat designed for a normal person. i wish they would have a "no fat people" section of the park that would rule
mreye
QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 04:11 PM) They're not kidding about the smell thing. Boy, does that ever change after you quit. I was playing poker next to a guy that would occasionally go out for a smoke. He'd come back in and I was about to puke. I never knew. Now I know how my wife knew when I had just a drag. I mean if you are 5'8 and weight 250+ you should have to buy two tickets, if you have to get a seatbelt extender you shouldn't be flying it is unsafe to have that much inertia! I have no problem with people smoking on the ramps but it could become a similar situation during sellouts where it will be like the 40 people huddled around the entrance of my office building laying down a smoke screen to enter. At least at a baseball game you aren't wearing a suit that cost $$s to get dry cleaned.
