What if Pinella?

What if we had traded Carlos Lee + cash to Seattle for Borchard this offseason and got Lou Pinella to manage for the 2003 White Sox. He has the Tampa Bay Devil Rays at 21 wins right now. They have hung tough and always seem to come back late in games. Today they just pounded the Angels after falling behind early. Some people say managers don't make a difference but I have to disagree. All you have to do is look at the lineup, the starting rotation, and the bullpen of the Devil Rays to know that some guys can win you more ballgames from the bench. I guess my question is why doesn't our team have a real manager? You know like the managers you see on TV and on the commercials. They have stuff like "personality" and "leadership skills" instead of the ability to do the chicken routine and get tossed out of games on purpose. WHY DONT WE HAVE A REAL MANAGER???

DK, didn't Pinella go to Tampa for family reasons?

If he were available, what an interesting concept.

He does have family in Tampa and said that he wasn't going to manage the Mariners this year. He said he was going to go down to Florida.

Seattle did the wise thing and gave him to Tampa, but as compensation, they got Randy Winn. Randy Winn isn't that bad of a player either.

You watch out though....I say the DRays will be a contender in 2 years.

Yeap. His rents live down here.... they are getting older, plus his kids and wife live here... and he now has a couple of grandkids (Believe they were on the way when he wanted to leave seattle)

But the main reason was his parents. He felt that he wasnt there for them enough, and his mother fell ill last year. so he felt that playing 50% of his games at home (tampa) would work better for him....

He also has a clause in his contract that allows him to take a extended leave of absense incase of illness in his family.

Baladelli, Crawford, Rolls, Hamilton, Brazelton, Escalona, Kennedy, etc. etc.

Damn straight, they have a chance to be one hell of a ball club, one that very could well be worth the wait.

If we had a good manager we would win this division in spite of the worst GM in baseball.

Too bad there aren' t more like Piniella.

Let's go with Valentine, Bucky Dent or Backman now!

The Sox aren't going to fire Manuel this season no matter what, so the wishful thinking for a new manager can stop now. :nono
