speaking of Liriano...7IP 11 strikeouts 2ER tonight

and got the W

Twins on a 5 game win streak

Anyone know how the search for our Liriano is moving along? Or have we resigned ourselves to the fact "he's a 1-1000 talent," "29 other teams would want him," or the money simply isn't put into heavily scouting Latin American countries?

Well Flash would you rather the money to be put into the major league payroll, or money taken out from that and put it into the Latin American Scouting System?

The Sox have actually been active in getting some guys like Francisco Hernandez, Paulo Orlando etc. into our farm system.

Not saying it compensates for a Liriano, but I'm sure 29 other teams would love to have a guy like him too.

Didn't the sox build a huge baseball academy in Venezuela. Liriano was traded to the twins also.

Fearless Leader

The White Sox will be missing our fearless leader Ozzie Guillen today. Guillen made an overnight flight to Venezuela as part of a project to open a baseball Academy there. He will fly back today and re-join the team in Peoria tomorrow. Joey Cora will run the team in Oz's absence.

Yes, on both accounts.

If Guillen's popularity in Venezuela is any indication, his name alone should attract talented young players. The next Felix Hernandez better be wearing a Whtie Sox uniform.

Liriano was originally signed by San Francisco from the Dominican Republic. My point is, you don't find Liriano's in the 35th round of the Major League draft pitching at some community college. Need to actually scout. Yeah, attrition rates for Latin arms are high. But if even ONE legitimate talent emerges it's worth it. Problem is, our organization has had trouble developing anything from Latin America within the last 7 years. This is indisputable, whether or not you're under the impression obtaining a Liriano or Santana was due to "luck," and/or terrible Twins teams.

I rather increase my chances, even if such probability slightly shifts from 2% to 5%, that heavily scouting one day lends us scary talent. If this is considered unreasonable, then excuse me for setting aspiriations beyond Felix Diaz and Arnie Munoz.

Maglio doesn't count?

Signed - 1991 (16 yrs old, I believe)

Debuted - 1997

Lee

Signed - 1994

Debuted - 1999

Since then - ..........................

Even if you were to suggest, "well, there's proof it takes years for a Latin prospect to make the majors, " it's been 7 years since we've had even a DECENT prospect from Latin America. I'm not even talking about two on the level of Ordonez or Lee; but on the level of Timo Perez. It's really been pathetic. JimH insists we have scouts down there, and apparently, they're doing something besides drinking Coronas and scouting women. The way I look at it, they've done s*** for nearly a decade. It's been one long vacation.

Johan Santana through 14 starts and 96.1 IP he has 104 Ks and only 16 BBs he's allowed a whopping (seriously) 11 HRs (half of what he gave up last year), his WHIP is actually high for him at 1.02 as is his .228 BAA on top of all this he has a 2.99 ERA.

He's struggling.

f***ing Tigers will not lose.

Well, they're doing what they're supposed to do. They can't beat a good team to save their lives but they've won every single game that they're supposed to win. We're just going to have to take care of our business and take care of them when we play 'em.

On a side note, our wild card lead keeps extending.

We have like a 6 game lead in the Wild Card. I know everybody thinks we're "above" that since we won it all last year, but if we take care of buisness that playoff spot is a lock, regardless of what the Tigers do.

5.5 and the thing is it's too early to worry about the wild card. Right now we're a whole two games behind the Tigers and our goal is to win the division. That being said if it comes down to us making the playoffs by winning the wild card, I don't think anyone is going to complain.

My point is basically that I have little concern about the Tigers. We can't control them, and if we keep winning we'll be fine. The Tiger anguish is not needed unless we're playing like s***, which we aren't.

The goal should be the division and we should concede nothing until somebody clinches something. What made me sick about the Cubs the past few years is how quickly they conceded the division to St. Louis... we can definitely win this thing. Howver, I will agree with you that it is very nice to know we are far ahead in the WC standings.

I like the trade the Royals made with Tampa for Gathright, I think that's a good almost no risk move for KC.

If he turns out they've got a real speedster, not happy that he went there.

Since he cost so little I wish the White Sox could've found a way to get him. Oh well.

Rick Helling's 2006 debut lasted just 2.1 giving up 6 runs. Magglio delivered two of Helling's babies DEEP into the left field bleaches to the tune of 4 RBI. Even Detroit's rookie starter crushed a no doubt double off of Helling. It was an ugly premier.

6-0 Tigers.

EDIT: 8-0 Tigers. Monroe with a two run jack...still in the 3rd.
