Wanne
QUOTE(rventura23 @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 09:30 AM) were just getting our bad baseball out of the way early, lower the expectations from our great season last year a little bit What he said. A couple of different things going on to start this season. 1) BIG target on the Sox back in every series this year as opposed to last when nobody expected anything. 2) Our pitchers will get better when it starts to warm up. 3) Huge expectations could be a massive burden. Let's get this first couple of weeks out of the way...let the scribes call the Sox overrated and how last year was a fluke. Put that chip back on everybody's shoulder. I'm not panicking yet...jesus...it's only 4 games into the season. A big win today should calm everybody down. The biggest thing that stands out these past 2 games is the LOB...33 the past 2 games is not good. Remain calm...this team will go on streaks this year of dropping 3 of 4...then go on some 12 out of 14 streaks. Be coo foos!
WCSox
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 06:58 AM) The key for Jon last season was to keep the walks down (29 less than in 2004), and giving up less of the longball (8 less in 2005). He's never going to be a high strikeout pitcher, which I suppose shows how important it is to put a good defense behind him. And he didn't have that at all yesterday. And unfortunately we saw the Jon of old, where he gets flustered if he gets a bad break or 2. He needs to get out of that mindset. Agreed. He's a ground-ball pitcher if his sinker is working. Last night, nothing seemed to be working. He's lucky that the wind caught the ball that Ozuna mis-judged, as that would've been a three-run homer under normal conditions. I agreee with Ozzie leaving him in after he coughed up the lead, though. He got no defense help from Ozuna and those two doubles down the lines in the 4th were more of the "seeing-eye" type than anything. After the way Jon pitched last year, he deserved the chance to work his way out.
WCSox
QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 10:17 AM) Well, I've also wanted Count to be traded if Garland wasn't I think its a downright crime to keep McCarthy out of the rotation right now. Same here about Count. I might be eating those words soon. And I'm curious as to how many people actually know that this thread was made as a joke.. I have my doubts about some of these replies. Doh! :banghead

The Berroa double was a massive hanger, and the Buck double was a weak fastball over the plate. I don't know if "rockets" is the correct way to describe them, but "seeing-eye" probably isn't, either. I guess my point was that they weren't line drives over the outfielders' heads. If they had gone either a little to the right or left, they could've been playable. But, yes, they definitely were bad pitches.
hammerhead johnson
QUOTE(Wedge @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 02:56 PM) I have yet to see anything that indicates we'll have the best rotation in the division. We might still, but things do not look good. Ummm, we have the best rotation in the majors outside of Oakland. You're talking about us not even having the best rotation in our own division? Come on. Love the avatar, hate the terrible baseball thoughts.

WhiteSoxfan1986
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 03:11 AM) You don't think Garcia will improve, and that he could just be going through a dead arm period? There were quite a few SP's in the same boat this week, such as Esteban Loaiza, he was only htting about 83MPH on the gun for the A's IIRC. It looks like posters have already soured on Garland though. When we re-signed him, everyone thought it was great "Yay, JG's around for another 3 years!!!" Now after 1 bad outing, people think he automatically won't be as good. And even if our pitching isn't as good, doesn't the increase in offensive production make up for that? I have seen a bunch of pitchers not having their velocity this week. Felix Hernandez was only throwing 92 mph yesterday.

The Beast
I believe there are several factors of why we aren't doing well. Ozzie puts people in the wrong spots...why do you put Ozuna in the OF in those conditions? Our bullpen will be able to get guys out, just watch. Right now, they look like zombies. And I like Logan, I just don't think that he and the others are on fire right now. I am under the opinion that the team has little to no chemistry, you can't re-tool a team and expect them to perform already; see the Yankees! I am frustrated no doubt, but lets all remember, it is only April!

Soxpranos
QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 01:54 AM) They look horrible! They can't even beat Kansas City. There's no point in even trying to salvage this season because the pitching staff has obviously declined drastically, and the hitting will never be able to pick up the slack. There's no way this team is going to win the division, so it may as well be blown up and dealt away for as much young talent as possible. When you sober up, repost your thoughts. Yes it sucks we lost 4 ina row now, but we can quickly turn it around, we play the Tigers after the Royals and we need to take that series or sweep.
