Chisoxfn
With the shape Thome is in, if he stays healthy I could seriously see him winning an MVP. He is freaking amazing. I like watching him hit more than anyone in baseball. I really hope he stays healthy.
Rowand44
Obviously it's to early to early to make this comparison but I definitely think we made the right choice. Thome is going to hit 40-45 homers for us this year, the guy is just a beast and has literally carried the team to our 2 wins so far. The Critic
I am enjoying watching Jim swing the bat VERY much so far. for him to stay healthy all year. We'll be really happy with his numbers if he does.

sox-r-us
Frank only goes to the plate to hit the long ball because he wants #500 to punch his ticket.....why else is he playing anyways? He has the $$$, he has the ring. It is the HOF ticket.

He's going to need some help, like, i don't know, from maybe a leadoff hitter getting on base.
Gregory Pratt
I think Thome + MVP = Pipe Dream. It's very real as a possibility if he plays First Base, but I think it was well-established last year that the Voters aren't willing to vote in a DH. All the power to him, I'd be thrilled like everyone else if he got it. But I doubt it very much.
chiguy79
4 hrs only 7 rbis... the MVP talk would be more likely if Pods would get on base and increase that RBI total. Any player who marries a hottie like Pods did is destined to see his numbers dip, at least for a year or two!
rventura23
QUOTE(chiguy79 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 02:44 PM) 4 hrs only 7 rbis... the MVP talk would be more likely if Pods would get on base and increase that RBI total. yeah Pods is cutting down on his production, but Thome has been a beast no question Id rather have Thome than Thomas (thomas is still a greater injury threat) and Chicago is starting to love Thome He may not win MVP but hes going to be huge for us this year. Once Paulie starts connecting a little more and if Pods gets on ever, we are dangerous at bat
Baines3
Jim Thome is amazing, 4 home runs and the season is only about week old!! It may turn out to be one of the best trades the Sox ever made. Let's hope he stays healthy.

With the way he's hitting right now he shoudl have so many more RBI's. On the bright side Iguchi has looked good. But god is Pods looking TERRIBLE. I berated him pretty good on my podcast this week (should be up in a bit). Don't know if you listen to it Gene, but we gave ya a shout out a week or two ago (well your site). WhiteSoxfan1986
I like Frank and wish him the best, but he looks like a complete jackass right now, saying we should have kept him instead of going out and getting Thome.

As opposed to saying 'yea they should definately have left me go. I'm past my prime, an injury waiting to happen, and a shell of the man I used to be. Oh, by the way, do any other teams out there want to sign me now?' I mean, yea Frank can be a dick, but of course he's going to say that he's the better player, its a combination of posturing and the fact to be at that level you have to be a little conceited. I have very little problem with people expecting a lot out of themselves
WilliamTell
Come on guys, A-Rod robbed Frank from a hit so he could have 3 hits on the year and it'd put his batting average well over the .100 mark.

I haven't had a chance to see him play, but my guess is he can't or would prefer not to. If he stays healthy it will be because he doesn't have to run the bases too much. Reddy
guys come on, why are we even having discussion? of COURSE Thome's gonna win MVP! how can you not with 92 homers!? i mean, thats the pace he's on right now. god i cant believe some people are doubting

I saw Frank bat twice against NY on TV last week. In the first at bat he swung hard and and hopped around on his right foot, doing everything he could to keep his weight off of the left ankle. In the second AB he slammed a double off the wall in left field, that gave the A's the win but he limped into second base in obvious pain. I'm afraid he is not long for this season. He finished 2nd in the MVP balloting to Giambi, who played 1B in 120+ games that year. Those two were so friggin similar in 2000 it's amazing. Thomas has made atleast a slight mechanical flaw in his swing this year - I noticed it opening night. In his past, he has always leaned on his back foot, like all players do, and then transfer that weight forward through the swing - but Thomas did this so much that he always very clearly ended up standing on his left foot only. Now his right foot remains grounded throughout the swing, as far as I could tell.

The only other thing could be that it's just early and he isn't locked in yet, but I think if he starts posting up on that foot, he's not long for this season. KW trades for him twice, gets his fat ass out of Montreal, has him playing and winning a WS, and he is bashing him? Thomas and Everett with their .095 and .136 averages would look a lot better with their mouths closed.
