Palehosefan
Looks like Calipari accepted the NC State job today. Tough blow for Memphis, could be a very good hire for NC State.
ZoomSlowik
That probably means that Williams and Washington are going to enter the draft now.
WhiteSoxfan1986
That's a big suprise to me. I guess you can pretty much put Williams and Washington in the draft.

greasywheels121
Haha... and on a related note, this gives Mike Davis a chance to just dominate Conference USA now. Good for NC State though.
Palehosefan
Jeff Capel to OU. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2404508 Yikes, they could have done ALOT better.
WhiteSoxfan1986
I wish Calapari would have stayed. Memphis could have became another Gonzaga and just dominated that conference. The only problem Calapari has is his recruits only stay for a year or two or don't show up at all. They have a chance to be great next year. southsider2k5
Wow, basically Calipari chose NC State over Indiana.... how sad is that?

He wanted hardcore upgrades in facilities, video theaters, practice courts, etc. ASAP. IU obviously needs to do that, but it can't/won't happen overnight. That's why he isn't here. All great points, and also remember that he won't have 1/10th the pressure at NC State that he would have at IU. The other interesting point is the Derrick Rose derby, this makes UNC and the Illini the 2 clear favorites, unless Calipari can go to NC State and get back into it there. Mmm as of now your right, but Capel is a very young guy and has shown to be a damn good coach. It's not the "sexy" choice, but I think it may work out very well for OU. fathom
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 11, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) All great points, and also remember that he won't have 1/10th the pressure at NC State that he would have at IU. The other interesting point is the Derrick Rose derby, this makes UNC and the Illini the 2 clear favorites, unless Calipari can go to NC State and get back into it there. Two things: - NC St. might not have the tradition that IU has, but their fans are some of the most rabid and insane that you'll find. Calipari will face a ton of pressure at NC St. to produce big right away. - NC St. will now likely be a player in the Rose sweepstakes (and when I say sweepstakes, I really mean it). Rose favors the ACC over the other conferences, and just cause Calipari is no longer at Memphis, it doesn't mean he won't be offering the same "opportunities" at NC St.
Queen Prawn
Brian and I are talking about moving to Raleigh near the NC State campus (wouldn't happen for quite some time). We went to a football game and a basketball game last year (and then 2 Canes games - honeymoon) and the fans were great. Ahh, so he WAS just using them to get a payraise at Memphis, similar to what Dixon did with Arizona State to say at Pitt. Bravo Calipari, enjoy the pay raise. Balta1701
Link John Calipari will remain the basketball coach at Memphis after agreeing to a contract extension Wednesday. Calipari had discussions with North Carolina State about its coaching vacancy and negotiated a raise and extension with Memphis athletic director R.C. Johnson. "Johnson and Calipari reached a verbal agreement on a contract extension, and the paperwork is in the process of being drawn up," Memphis spokesman spokesman Lamar Chance said. Terms of the deal were not immediately available. The Commercial Appeal reported Wednesday that Calipari will get a raise from less than $1.1 million to about $1.3 million plus incentives that could make the possible total package about $1.7 million through the 2010-11 season.
