Sharon, 78, has been in a coma since suffering a massive stroke January 4. He has had several surgeries since he entered the hospital. Ehud Olmert has been serving as acting prime minister and is likely to take over the post officially when a new government is formed. (Watch what would happen if Sharon recovered -- 1:05) Olmert's Kadima party won 29 of the Knesset's 120 seats in last month's parliamentary election and is charged with forming a new coalition government.
