Linnwood
The Black Alternate Jersey: I've seen them at home, I've seen them on the road, and now I've seen them two games in a row (Monday and today). Why and when does the team wear them? Is there a rotating schedule? Is it when Ozzie feels like it? Is it up the starting pitcher? (I thought I remember reading once that Greg Maddux refuses to wear anything but the pin stripes when he starts at home) I silly kinda dumb not knowing this. Help! Kalapse
The pitcher selects what jersey the team will wear that day. The Sox wore the black alternates in the final game Vs the Royals and won there for they have to keep wearing them until the team loses, they did this last year as well. The alternates can be worn anywhere whether it be at home or on the road and you'll more than likely be seeing them until the Sox lose a game. Dam8610
I think the starter chooses which jersey he wants to wear, but I'm not sure. The black road unis are my favorite though. Edited April 13, 2006 by Dam8610
Linnwood
Thanks for the answer Kalapse! QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Apr 12, 2006 -> 07:16 PM) The black road unis are my favorite though. The black jersey is my fav too, in fact both the jerseys I have to wear to the game are the black alt. So here is to them keeping the winning streak alive! I'll be gosh darned. All the smarter, cooler fans knew this already.... It's been an ongoing thing with a few teams, but I don't think every team does this. Cali
I remember in either '03 or '04, there was a time they would wear those uni's for weeks at a time, which is when they became so boring to me. They should really only wear them in moderation. They kept it pretty equal last season, and I don't remember them wearing them at all in the Playoffs. LVSoxFan
You know what's interesting? They never wore the black ones durng the playoffs last year. The black is definitely my favorite. But no, last year on the road it was gray all the way. I was superstitious because I had switched from the gray for the first game of the ALCS and we lost so I put the gray back on and never changed it. In fact, I'll be at Comerica tomorrow sitting behind our dugout, wearing the black. I actually have to wear my white Sox hat because I managed to lose my regular black one this week. Let's face it though: all their jerseys are kickass--I have 'em all and I love 'em. Except that damn '59 one for $275 dollars! :headshake
G&T
Don't they have 1906 alternates this year? What's the story on that?

It's an alternate jersey that will be wore on Sunday home games, from what I understand.
chisoxdavid
I remember last season, Freddy would almost always have them wear Black, even that one hot ass day vs the Cubs.
DABearSoX
Black jerseys are a close second in my book. The road grey is still my favorite. I always alternate though. Have an Iguchi pinstriped, Konerko Grey and a blank black jersey.

Texsox
Is pitcher's choice a team thing or an established custom around the league? I'll join those in saying it's the first I knew that, I assumed the team had to notify the league in advance if they were making a uniform switch. I figured there was a schedule laid out at the start of the year since some of the uniforms corresponded with special events. Google search, Diamondbacks have the SP select. Guillen'sGuy
This is news to me as well. I do enjoy the black alternates but the home white with pinstripes is my favorite.

I figured there was a schedule laid out at the start of the year since some of the uniforms corresponded with special events. Google search, Diamondbacks have the SP select. As far as I know it is the custom around the league. The have to notify the Commissioner's Office when they introduce a new uniform that they will wear during the year. The team, in tmany cases the SP, may choose from those accepted uniforms. However, there are certain events, like Turn Back the Clock, where the team dictates which unis will be worn. This is my knowledge on the subject.
