aboz56
QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 14, 2006 -> 02:50 PM) I know this is probably the wrong thread for this, but with the rumors that Miguel Cabrera might be on the market this coming offseason, it will be interesting to see if Ozzie and company try to make a run at him. He'd be the perfect long-term fit for LF. We'd have to empty what's left of our minor league system to do it. I think I'd rather let Anderson, Owens and Sweeney develop and take our chances there than go after Cabrera. We're going to need to keep money free for Buehrle and Crede coming up so I don't really see us having the cash to throw around that Cabrera is going to command. aboz56
Let me correct my statement: Any relevant Sox player I can remember. Wells, Paniagua and Walker were not relevant. Wells was a fat turd who did nothing. Paniagua lasted what, one game and Kevin Walker hardly pitched.
kapkomet
QUOTE(Beastly @ Apr 14, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) So you dislike Scotty Podsednik, even though he's the best leadoff and only leadoff hitter we've had since Ray Durham? Yeah, okay, I see your logic, and that trade needed to happen if you wanted to win at all. I couldn't stand Caballo, who was a fat slow turd who could be replaced by Konerko and Everett easily. Seriously, he'd be a perfect fit in Chicago (even though there were rumors about him being an ass in the locker room awhile ago) I think Ozzie would welcome the challenge with Cabrera (who's Venezuelan, I think). Also, Ozzie was with the Marlins when he came up. If we got Cabrera for LF, I wouldn't be upset if we let Buehrle go via FA, and put Fields at 3b for Crede. Seriously, he'd be a perfect fit in Chicago (even though there were rumors about him being an ass in the locker room awhile ago) It was also reported that he came to camp out of shape and doesn't put the work in to be the best player he can be. No thanks. Let him go to the Yankees, he sounds like a perfect fit for them.
Felix
QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 14, 2006 -> 03:03 PM) I think Ozzie would welcome the challenge with Cabrera (who's Venezuelan, I think). Also, Ozzie was with the Marlins when he came up. If we got Cabrera for LF, I wouldn't be upset if we let Buehrle go via FA, and put Fields at 3b for Crede. Yea, the Venezuelan connection I would still be upset if we let Buehrle go, but Crede, not so much. Hell, if we could spin a deal where we held onto Sweeney, but traded Fields (along with a lot of other prospects naturally), we could just stick Cabrera at third. Then again, I doubt anything will come of this. I think that the Marlins are going to build around a core group of players, and chances are its going Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera. I guess we can dream though

No thanks. Let him go to the Yankees, he sounds like a perfect fit for them. I'm not going to complain about his work ethic when he's on one of the worst rosters in the history of baseball. I'm sure that being on a great team and with Ozzie as his manager would solve a lot of issues. Going from Pro Player to the Cell would make him even more dangerous. And yes, I know it's not likely going to happen. I just don't think you can count us out thanks to the Ozzie factor.

LVSoxFan
I'm not as down on Pods as most are here (wow!) but I agree it is a critical hole in the lineup. He can't steal if he can't get on base and since he's not getting on base, he's more or less worthless right now. I've also bemoaned the lack of speed elsewhere in the past; for a team built on speed, pitching and defense, the "speed" part pretty much dies when Pods is not healthy/on his game. Meaning: one guy. Unless I missed something and other people are stealing bases this year. I'd say give him a few months; if, at the all-star break, he's still so-so, get rid of him. True, you won't get me on board for acquiring him if it means Buehrle leaves via FA. I think he's a great player, but I think its a pipedream for us to get him. Those are how many times he was caught running to either second or third. I know for a fact he was picked off 10-12 times... you are not telling me he was caught stealing an actual base 11-13 times.
