sox-r-us
It seems to me like all of these 3 teams will be there all the way in this division..... Who do you fear the most and why? All of them seem to have pitching and hitting, and while they all have some flaws, so do we..... Hitting: I would rank it as: Tiggers, Indians, White Sox, Twinkies .... in that order Starting pitching: I would rank it as: White Sox, Indians, Twinkies, Tiggers Bull Pen: I would rank it as: Twinkies, Indians, WHite Sox, Tiggers Your Thoughts? NorthSideSox72
I'll reiterate what I've said all along... Indians are good, but not as good as last year. Tigers are improved but still very inconsistent. Twins are much worse than last year (I really don't get the Twins love on this board), and will be lucky to play .500 ball. KC is improved, but much like the Tigers, they will be inconsistent. Overall, the division is much tighter than last year. Sox win the division, then Indians in a close second (so I guess they scare me most). The other three teams will be closely packed around the 80 win mark, battling for 3-4-5. Heads22
I would like to say, it's cool that the Central has 4 legitimate teams after years of being regarded as the worst division in baseball. If/When we win the division, we'll know we earned it yet again.

RME JICO
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 02:51 PM) I would like to say, it's cool that the Central has 4 legitimate teams after years of being regarded as the worst division in baseball. If/When we win the division, we'll know we earned it yet again. The problem that happens with strong Divisions with several good teams is that you beat up on each other pulling all your records down. That makes it unlikely that a team will come out of the Division as a Wild Card. That will also work against the East with Boston, NYY, and Toronto. Beating up on teams you are supposed to beat is more important now than ever. The Sox need a sweep of KC.
WCSox
Indians. They're, by far, the most complete team of the three. They have good young hitters, their starting pitching is solid, and their bullpen is almost as good as MIN's.
Rowand44
Twins by far. I've said this a lot but the Tigers will be tucked away in 4th by the allstar break, they won't finish within 15 games of the Sox. infohawk
I know the Tribe is our most serious competition, but I must add that the team I hate to lose to the most is the Twins. It's probably just a hangover from chasing them for three years, but while I dislike losing to the Tribe, I utterly hate losing a game to the Twinkies. Whitewashed in '05
It's all about Kansas City. No disrespect to any of the other teams, but it's all about KC. Mos definitley the Indians. They have a great offense, solid pitching from top to bottom, and a good pen for the most part. The Tigers aren't too bad, but their #1 is inconsistent along with the rest of the rotation. Their offense is good and their pen isn't terrible, but it isn't great. The Twins have a solid rotation for the most part besides Lohse and Baker who will probably be replaced if he falters. Good pen and their offense isn't good at all. Every team will be a factor in each others success besides KC.
Allsox
Indians by far. They can just pummel you with that offense (Peralta hasn't caught his stride yet and once he does, Hafner's gonna be unstoppable, as if he isn't already ) and their defense is pretty good. The starting pitching is their Achilles heel as I don't see Johnson, Byrd and Sabathia holding up. I don't fear the Tigers (Bad defense will put some stress on that young staff) nor the Twins (Gotta score runs for Santana, Radke to win games and as long as Kyle Lohse is in the rotation, they won't be able to put any winning streaks together). Once Pods gets going along with Garland, the Sox are capable of putting together some nice long winning streaks and they'll need them to hold back Cleveland. Balta1701
I'm still damn scared of the Twins. They have by far the best pitcher in our division, and they also have a boatload of pitching. Their problem last year, as we all know, was hitting. Thus far this year, Morneau is actually hitting, which would have solved a lot of their problems last year. Add in the return of Torii Hunter and while that offense isn't going to scare you, with their pitching staff it may be enough to give them a shot. Especially once Santana hits his "2nd half form". ZoomSlowik
I think as long as we do our thing we can take all of them. We've got the best starting pitching by a good margin IMO (early stats not withstanding) and our offense is much improved. Our bullpen might be a concern, but it seems like the Twins have the only really impressive bullpen. I think the biggest threat by far is the Indians. Their offense is putting up some good numbers without major contributions from Sizemore or Perralta. I'm still not a huge fan of a lot of the individual players in their lineup, but it's hard to argue with the numbers. They also have some competent starters, but none of them are even close to dominant, or at least not for long stretches. Their bullpen is a bit of a mixed bag. I personally have no faith in Wickman and Cabrera looks bad, but Miller and Mota look solid. I don't expect the Tigers or Twins to be a major threat to win 90. Santana is a beast and the pen is solid, but the rest of the rotation is pretty pedestrianm unless Liriano gets a spot and pitches like a front of the rotation starter. Their lineup also doesn't impress me all that much. They either need Mauer to develop more pop or Morneau to be more consistent and get some walks. The Tigers just don't have enough pitching. Robertson and Maroth are just mediocre, and despite his talent Verlander is going to be inconsistent. Plus the pen lacks experience, although they have some good arms. GoodAsGould
I wouldnt even say the Tigers have the best offense...... Unless your counting on Shelton to keep up his current pace. Once he cools off their whole offense cools off it already has really anyways.... except for him. And their rotation has talent in it but yeah they arent consistent at all. I think the Twins, Indians, and Sox will all battle it out the whole season. The Twins might fall behind earlier but than Santana will have his 2nd half dominance to get them right back into it. DBAHO
Indians have decreased a little from last season. Their big 3 should be a little better than last season, but Byrd and Johnson are downgrades from what they had in there last season. Michaels has done the job so far in replacing Crisp but I still have my doubts on whether he can do it for a whole season. And they've lost Riske, Rhodes and Howry from their pen. Mota HAS to hold up for them otherwise they're in trouble on that regard. Twinkies still worry me a little. Thier SP is still one of the best in the league. If Scott Baker and Lohse can hold up and provide ERA around 4, then they can keep Liriano in the pen (even though he'd be just as good in rotation), and he can provide that 2 innings of relief where he's been just flat out dominant. But a lineup that includes Juan Castro and Tony Batista ain't going to take you places, and that'll be there downfall. The Tiggies still have their problems. Some of their starters still aren't consistent enough (Bonderman still has his bad days, Maroth and Robertson aren't going to wow you) etc., while their pen needs guys like Jones and Rodney to hold up. Zumaya looks the goods though in the pen. Offensively, they've still got 1 main problem. Plate Discipline. They don't walk, and they can't keep hitting over .300 forever. witesoxfan
If the Twins get Liriano into the rotation, they are probably my most feared team...the Twins, offensively, are going to be probably right around where the Sox were last year, perhaps a little better, but that rotation would be disgusting. Santana-Radke-Silva-Baker-Liriano...where's the weakspot? Probably Radke, and he is good for an ERA around 4.00 and 12-15 wins every given year, and he is a friggin money pitcher. The Sox rotation is one of the few that could be better than that, but hell, even they may not be better if that rotation pitches like it can. Their defense is still solid too, so I fear the hell out of them. I'll say that I figure both Cleveland and Minnesota are equal threats to the Sox...it will be a three horse race all year long, and I figure the healthiest team will probably wind up winning the division. If past history indicates what happens this year, I see the Sox winning the division with Cleveland finishing in 2nd and Minnesota 3rd.
