Greg Maddux

Is he retiring after this year -- what do you guys think? I think it depends on how well the Cubs do and how his health holds up, but moreso on the Cubs winning and how good their team is lined up to be for next year, too. Maddux wants another Ring. (Of course, he'll have to hold off on that while with the Cubs...)

On another note, am I the only one pulling for him to win the National League Cy Young, and happy he's off to three great starts? Maddux will always be a Brave to me. But, more importantly, he'll always be a damned good pitcher.

LOL, by the end of the year his era will be over 4, he's not getting anywhere near the cy young.

I’m giving credit to where credit is due and Maddux deserves just that. He’s looked very good so far and as of now he is definitely in line for another 15+ win season, which is something he didn’t accomplish last season.

I’ve never had a problem with Greg. I enjoyed watching him pitch for the Braves in the 90’s and seeing the highlights of last night's ballgame thrills me. Only 86 pitches thrown in 8 innings.

Well he shut down an already mediocre lineup without it's best hitter last night in a pitchers park, he beat St. Louis and their swiss cheese lineup with the wind howling in. His other start I give him a lot of credit for, 6 innings of 1 run ball against the Reds is solid, but I'm not exactly sure Maddux is all of a sudden back to 1996 form yet. Still one of the all time greats though.

He looked real sharp against the Giants.... his stuff had good movement to it and add that into the extra half a plate he gets by the umps.... just maybe  :P

Am I the only one who is thinking that he seems to have a little "extra" movement on his pitches this year?

I think he said "Who's Mark Buehrle?" or something like that.

The answer of course is the #1 starter on the defending World Series champs.  :gosox2:

Oh, that's not that bad, all things considered. Buehrle had accused a Cubs pitcher of cheating and Maddux was heralded as the "obvious" choice by the media. (I thought he was talking about Zambrano, but I don't know.)

Maddux' reply was, "Who's Mark Buehrle?" and, you know, it could be worse. I don't much like it, but it's better than whatever Frank Thomas or Carl Everett or Curt Shilling would say.

I love it when Cub fans get such a great chuckle from "Who's Mark Buehrle" because Mark called out Maddux by name and said he threw a spitball.

He was egged on by that loser Blackhawks phony Jesse Rodgers and someone else (Ofman?) into giving them a name, and he said "you hear stuff around the league about a guy on the north side with a lot of success who has a lot of movement on his pitches."

Of course Maddux took the Barry Bonds route of not denying any accusations (remember "who's Ron Kittle?) and came back with the lame "Who's (fill in the blank.)"

Who is Mark Buehrle? All-Star game starter and winner, ace of the World Champions' staff, and he even recorded the save in the longest World Series game in MLB history.

Who was Greg Maddux? That one Braves pitcher right?

Actually, that's wrong. Buehrle didn't call Maddux out by name, and he backtracked whenever asked if it was Maddux he WAS talking about. For my money, I thought he was talking about Zambrano's sinker.
