Change in rotation schedule

Tribune:

Manuel decided to take advantage of Saturday's rainout by flipping Esteban Loaiza and Jon Garland in the rotation.

Rather than having both right-handers start on five days' rest, Loaiza will go Tuesday after four days off and Garland will take the ball Wednesday on six days' rest.

"Loaiza said he likes to stay on [four days'] and he wants the ball as much as he can," Manuel said. "He is deserving of that with the way he has pitched."

The change means that Garland won't face his hometown Dodgers this weekend. He figures to open the series against San Francisco on June 10.

Asked about the prospect of facing Barry Bonds, Garland replied: "I'm not facing one guy. I'm facing the whole team. If I just worry about him, I'm going to get my butt kicked by the rest of the team."

I am looking forward to watching Loiaza pitch on Tuesday. The game is on WGN. The way the season has been going it is the only thing I have to look forward to as far as the Sox are concerned. Although the pitching has been good lately, excluding Wright, I still wanted to watch EL.

What's the latest on the condition of Schilling's hand?

Jun 1 Schilling was hit twice on his pitching hand by comebackers in Friday's game against the San Diego Padres. After the game, the Diamondbacks' righthander underwent precautionary X-rays, which were negative. He was diagnosed with a bone bruise, but expects to make his scheduled start on Wednesday.

Advice: Schilling will throw in the bullpen over the next couple of days to make sure he will be ready.

Basically, no official word yet.

Garland has been pitching better as of late, and I like his attitude going into the San Fran series. He is obviously going to worry about Bonds, but he is going to worry about the whole team....and that is a very smart thing to do. San Francisco has a lot of good hitters on their team, and to concentrate on Bonds alone would be devastating.

The score would look something like our first game against Minnesota this year in the Metrodome. Remember, the game where the Vikings beat the Bears 18-3....err....the Twins beat the White Sox 18-3.
