Man Survives 12 Nails in Head

PORTLAND, Ore. - April 24, 2006 - Doctors say an Oregon man has set an unwanted record.

 

The 33-year-old man went to the hospital complaining of a headache.

The X-rays revealed 6 nails between his right eye and ear, 2 below his right ear and 4 more on the left side of his skull. The man admitted they all got there in a failed suicide attempt with a nail gun.

 

Neurosurgeons removed the nails one by one. They say, amazingly, none hit major blood vessels or the brain stem.

 

The man was also given psychiatric care following surgery.

The unidentified 33-year-old man was suicidal and high on methamphetamine last year when he fired the nails -- up to 2 inches in length -- into his head one by one.
