XM radio

So a co-worker told me recently that XM had offered her a free 3 months when she called to cancel her subscription and being the XM subscriber I am, I gave them a call and told them I was thinking about switching to Sirius. I told the first person I was speaking to that I needed to cancel my subscription and that I was switching to Sirius. He asked to verify some info and then transfered me to a different department. The guy answers and asks me why I am switching. So I say I'm thinking of going to Sirius because it is perhaps a better deal. I was recently billed for another year (for $150 total with tax) but I wanted to go ahead and get the pro-rated refund and cancel. So the guy offers me 20% off the yearly price and I went ahead and took it. I'm not sure if this means XM has been losing a lot of people to Sirius or what, but it was an easy way to get the price lowered. Just a heads up for any XM people out there who feel they are overpaying for service.

Both companies are doing the same thing, its called competition.  I will never leave XM, but I will tell them I will many times.  I do this with cell phone companies constantly.

how much of a deal have you been able to get from XM?

I think they are trying to stop attrition and I guarantee you Sirius is doing the same. This has less to do with Sirius competition and more to do with trying to hang on to the people who are getting the three month trial subscriptions with their new cars.

You guarantee? All these stories going around have to deal with XM. They made a major mistake in letting Stern get away...now they have commercials on some of their music channels....Clear Channel is involved with them....and now they are allowing CBS to air one of their shows over their airwaves...so now they are dropping some of their 'exclusive' content. If I had XM, I would be out the door. They are starting to have to much to do with regular radio.

Join the Revoluation. f*** XM.

Got 3 months free from them the first time I called to tell them I was cancelling, and 20% off my renewal the second time.

Then I got 6 months free when I told sirius I was leaving them for XM beccause of baseball season. ;)

That's entertainment, did they fake any orgasms? Should increase subscribers for adults with children, who have been begging for more content like that. ;)

I used to love Stern when I was around 18 or 19, but it's the same stuff constantly.

After a while interviewing hot chicks just isn't interesting anymore, at least to me.

I never found the getting chicks naked on the show aspect of the show interesting, because if I cant see it, why do I care? Stern was at his greatest when he was fighting "the man". Now that he won, its the same ole rigamarole.

You're not listening, so how would you know that it's the same 'ole rigamarole'?

In fact, the show has been better than ever...and my favorite parts of the show have nothing to do with women getting naked.

Yeah, there is no audience for it...just millions of people...and what would children have to do with anything? I bet there is no interest in the porn industry either?

Stern is worthless. I do not find his show enjoyable at all, and it wouldnt influence me to join any such company. I chose XM based on its stability and stock prices initially, and the MLB and big ten programming. I love my xm.

XM is a great product as well, evidenced by my new avatar. I think the difference in the two is the premium content. I would not be happy with XM's increase in Clear Channel presence...and sharing of exclusive content. If I didn't own Sirius, I would own XM. It is a great product. I just love annoying everyone with the Stern banter.

My insignificant post is over.

Hey I couldn't pass up giving you the avatar.

Anyhow, back to the topic, anyone else getting anything cheaper than the 20% off.

This forum I found suggests $77 a year from XM somehow.

Porn isn't for everyone, and either is Stern, glad you see the similarity. Some people enjoy that, others don't. His greatest talent is in producing rabid fans who will do anything Stern asks. Amazing.

My friend, a Sirius subscriber, said something very radio industry like the other day. "Howard isn't cut out for satellite radio."

I did a double take and then he said something that makes sense. On regular radio, he's the granddaddy of shock jocks and challenging convention in every sense.

In the world of satellite, everyone swears and everyone talks about naked chicks - and he's just another one of them.

I really considered XM for quite some time when I lived in Carbondale, because I wanted to listen to the Sox games in my car and also listen to chicago sportsradio. Thats pretty much where my interest ends though, in any sort of satellite radio. sometime when I was in college shock-jocks lost thier luster to me, i cant pinpoint when it was.

I can appreciate Howard Stern for pushing the boundaries of conventional radio, and he did it every chance he could. I just lost interest in his programming back then, and now I have no interest in paying for it right now. THats great that Stern got paid and can do what he wants now, i hope he enjoys everything he worked for and earned.

I do this kind of thing to directv all the time too.  Crazy bastards.

What are you able to get from DirecTV?

I am with them as well and would be interested to hear.

pull the same stunt with Directv vs dish network and they will throw the moon at you. I had a friend get 6 months of the premiere package for only the price of the basic plus package, something like a 50 dollar difference per month over the course of 6 months.
