I can't stand the myth that the Cubs ownership is content with losing, as long as they pack the stands.  They've had one of the highest payrolls in baseball the last few years.  It's not the ownerships fault that Wood has awful mechanics and Prior is a pussy.

How is it a myth? Even the sox have a higher payroll than the cubs. Can you even name a big name free agent they have signed in recent history? They are probably the most profitable franchise in the MLB. They average around 98 percent attendance, they scalp their own tickets for profit, they make a mighty dollar off the suckers they call fans. Yet they continue to put a mediocre team on the field, year after year. The only event that sparked some movement from the front office this offseason was the sox winning the WS. And that player movement was average at best anyway.

My Dixie Normus - well said...

Regarding ownership, you may recall that the Sox owners nearly moved the team to Tampa in pursuit of almightly dollar.

So, both Cub and Sox owners are evil...

I remember it well. There were very legitimate reasons for the Sox to do what they did.

A) The old ball park was falling apart. It had to be replaced.

B) The Sun Dome was going up or was already complete.

C) The fan base would not support sky rocketing salaries.

The Sox would never have a chance in the situation. I don't think it was all about money.

The Cubs greed is unmatched by anyone except Bill Wirtz, the worst owner in professional sports. Cub faithful should be outraged over the ticket broker thing, the green screens to block out the roof tops and the BS with the 2000 new seats in the bleechers. Remember the fans who got knocked out by falling concrete and the Cubs got in a big go with the building inspectors? The Cubs don't give a crap about thier fans. They know they would draw 1.5 avery year if they only ran a bus from O'Hare to Wrigley. The high payroll means jack. They over pay a few marquee names to draw in fans and the rest of the team sucks.

The Cubs payroll has been in the 90 to 100 million range for the past few seasons. Just because we shot past them one season, it doesn't mean we're going to be a higher payroll team over the next few seasons (as much as I'd LOVE to see it). Yes, the Cubs could have been more active on the FA market. However, if you listen to Cubs fans, you would have thought they had a payroll similar to the Brewers over the past few years. I definitely don't think they've put together a mediocre team over the past few years. They're a very talented squad, who's had a lot of injury issues, as well as a bad manager.

Salary as a percentage of revenue is somewhere in the middle of the league, I would be willing to bet. They have three more years before they hit the century mark without a WS win. If they don't spend every dollar they have to win it before that happens, there should not be an ass in the seats. They give Chicago a bad name.

i flip back and forth between both games when they're both on...and sometimes, when they have a game during the day and ours is at night, i watch it. only because mai 1st period teacher is a huge cubs fan and he knows i'm a sox fan so he sat me in the front row right byt he "go cubbies" sign. i try and pick up errors to make fun of him with. it's not that big of a deal if you watch both games.

It is the ownerships fault for signing an expensive, long term deal to a guy with bad mechanics.

Because I dont believe after winning the World Series there was that many Cubs fans that jumped for Sox season tickets. I think there are alot of Sox fans like me that went to games on a very regular basis, and when they won it all, decided to put more into the team by buying season tickets.

Are you going to find the case of a Cub fan jumping ship to the Sox? Sure, but not enough to effect the revenue for the Sox. If your a Cub fan your a Cub fan, if your a Sox fan your a Sox fan. I really dont think they effect each others revenue that greatly, nor do I consider a team we play 6 times  a year the most hated rival.

I think you are missing a very large percentage of the Chicago MSA population, that is people who are only casual baseball sports fans. There are a lot of people who may only go to a couple of games a year, and for a long time, we lost almots all of those to Wrigley field. Now with the Sox success, coupled with Sox fans buying more season tickets and the Cubs continued injury-filled underachievement, US Cellular field is now an option.
