Punch and Judy Garland
yeah there is no video, not yet anyways. He didn't thik "I'm a superstar athlete". He just didn't think. LEt's not crucify the kid. He made a huge mistake but it was just a mistake. Nobody got hurt. Someone could have so a healthy suspension is in order but let's not overdo it
Milkman delivers
"It was just a mistake" doesn't fly in the real world. This idiot knows you don't touch the umpire at all, let alone with the bat. I don't care if he threw the bat or tossed it. He did something he knew wasn't allowed to do, and now he's gonna have to pay the price. I don't care if it was a mistake or if he's just immature. f*** him. He'll think twice now before he does something like this again.
fathom
BTW...he was suspended last season for a few games for bumping into the umpire. The funny thing in all of this is that Elijah Dukes is going to be turned into the bad guy within the organization.
HuskyCaucasian
There has to be video of this somewhere.
fathom
QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 08:38 PM) There has to be video of this somewhere. Like I said earlier, there's an in-house video feed. That's the only known footage of the video.
Pauly8509CWS
They've showed it on ESPN a few times. The bat goes end over end and hits the ump directly. It was thrown, and I mean thrown, right at him.
Kyyle23
Its on ESPN.com now.(ESPN motion) Delmon Young is a moron. This wasnt flipping the bat, he threw it at the ump.

Milkman delivers
They just showed it on Sportscenter again. I stand by my original feelings. This asshole should be out the whole year.
maggsmaggs
He clearly threw it with the intention of hitting the umpire.
fathom
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 10:16 PM) For some reason I was giving him the benefit of the doubt before seeing the tape, but he is indeed a major prick. Me too. He's lucky he didn't hurt the umpire.
Dick Allen
He deserves a big suspension, but not for the entire year. Maybe an assault charge as well. They should make him pay the umpire a big hunk of change not to press charges. If he's doing this in the minors, just wait until his head swells even more when he gets to the majors. He's going to be a huge target for hecklers.
Punch and Judy Garland
The ump is a scab so I doubt baseball would make him compensate him, and I doubt that would fall under their control anyways
Punch and Judy Garland
The video is worse than I had heard so I amend my vote to 30 games. 15 percent of the nation is choosing lifetime ban on espn.com which is of course, retarded. Do these people vote in elections?
Nokona
He flipped it backwards and it hit the ump? I dont think it's worth more than 20 games.

No if you look closely, you can see him turn starting to turn around right as he leaves the screen. He looks back to measure his throw as he turns. 3E8
The announcer says, "he threw his bat and the bat hit the umpire." If it was intentional he probably would have said "he threw his bat at the umpire." I think there should be a difference in penalty if he was just throwing the bat out of anger and it hit the ump. Punch and Judy Garland
Given the dugout appeared to be the direction he was going in, it would be hard to accidentally hit him. The reports undeniably understated the impact of the toss.
whitesoxfan101
Suspend him for the rest of this season, make him do anger management, and review things next February. You can't do that, period. Lifetime is too much, but he should for sure be done playing baseball in 2006.
Phuck the Cubs
I saw it on SC. He walked back, and then threw it at him w/ the intent to injure. He should be suspended for the season. Latrell, "I need more money to feed my family" Sprewell got a year for choking his coach, this guy should get a season for hitting an umpire

WhiteSoxfan1986
I saw the video earlier today, and it's a lot worse than I thought it was. He was trying to hit the ump.
