My guess is it'll take at least 2 weeks for Nelson to get back in shape.  At that point the White Sox (and maybe even Nelson) have a decision to make.

I doubt this guy wants to be pitching in Charlotte or wherever for long.

Probably by the time he's ready, the Sox are entering the interleague portion of their schedule so that might impact their decision.

I am guessing the guy has a standard escape clause that said if Chicago hasn't called him up by X, that he can request a release.

I'd give a reaction, but I don't know a thing about this pitcher.  :huh

He's been in the league for 14 years, pitched 782 Innings with a 3.41 ERA and has picked up 4 rings along the way.

You ever watch non-Sox baseball?

He's been around for awhile, and isn't really someone who hides in the shadows.

Yes, excited is probably the right word.  This was a nice little suprise to walk in to.

Both Jabroni and I have been calling for Nelson since the 2005 off-season.  I'm sure he'll be pleased as well.  Make no mistake about it, this guy is still murder on right-handers.

I absolutely expect Nelson to be with the big league club by the end of the month.  It's been a fun little adventure with our a-baller, but, it is about time the Sox bring up a real major league talent.

JimH, the Sox bring him in.  This is pretty assuring.  Even if Logan proves he belongs with the big club, Nelson is backup plan A-1.  His signing with the Cardinals--albeit cut short by that suprise cut--proved he wanted to pitch for a competitor.  I'm pretty happy.

It makes sense. If you can have a LOOGY who just gets lefties out, why can't you have a ROOGY who is great at getting righties out? Afterall, there are a ton more righty hitters than lefties.

And I like Gload but he's the guy to dump to open up a spot for Nelson. Afterall, the guy has 6 freaking AB's. What good is he if Ozzie will never play him anyways?

Interesting.  That doesn't excite me at all but I assume he's going to replace Boone.

I wouldn't count on that just yet. Boone went 2 plus and k'd 5 the other night and I think the Sox like that 3 Lefty option. Nelson might make it to the team, but will have to prove himself at AAA first. You might see a position player like Gload being sent down and another relief pitcher brought up.

With Thornton out of options and KW probably not wanting to give up on him just yet, I agree that Gload would probably be the odd man out. Mackowiak can play any position that Ross can and is arguably a better option at the plate.

Nelson is a risk, but a very low-cost one with high upside. I really like this signing.

left handed batters rake Nelson. Its a no risk move bringing him in, but I really don't see him replacing any of the current bullpen members, unless Logan and/or Thornton really get knocked around soon. I think he would fill in for an injury or take the spot of Gload. Either that, or he'll pitch a couple of months in Charlotte, and then go home or to a different organization.

I'm having a hard time getting excited about a 39 year old pitcher who wasn't good enough to make the rickety St. Louis bullpen. Jocketty/LaRussa/Duncan are rarely very wrong about guys like this. They go by how a guy is throwing now, not a BaseBall Reference career stats page.

Its a nice gesture by the Sox to give him a chance to pitch, and while its possible something good will happen, he has to pass at least Logan, Lopez and Bentz to get to Chicago.
