Dick Allen
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 8, 2006 -> 05:32 PM) Why the hell are we starting some knuckleballer with no experience rather than B-Mac, especially with today being a day off?!? McCarthy pitched Sat. and Sunday. His arm would need to be stretched out probably, so he probably couldn't go more than 4 or 5 innings, and considering he is the main guy in the bullpen who can pitch multiple innings, it could be a huge problem. This is the right move considering how Haeger has been pitching. Does anyone know if tommorrow is Haeger's regular day to pitch? It probably doesn't make much difference with a knuckleballer, but it has been an issue with guys called up before.

whitesoxfan101
I'm sure this is retro to his last start (May 4th), which I believe would mean he would be eligible to come off the DL Saturday, April 20th, which was a day he was scheduled to pitch against the Cubs on. So hopefully this injury isn't too big a deal and we see him then! If that were the case, he'd also only miss 2 starts. Dick Allen
QUOTE(jphat007 @ May 8, 2006 -> 05:35 PM) Sucks, but glad it is his hip and not his back, elbow or shoulder. Its a little disconcerning that the injury appears severe enough to DL him. Hips can be huge problems. Its what led to Britt Burns' demise. He won 15 games in 1985, was traded to NY. Hip problems surfaced in spring training, and he never threw another pitch in the major leagues.
shawnhillegas
yeah, hip problems are bad news. id much rather have a sore shoulder. especially if there was an MRI taken and he was so quickly ushered onto the DL. think joey belle folks.

fathom
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 8, 2006 -> 10:39 PM) Its a little disconcerning that the injury appears severe enough to DL him. Hips can be huge problems. Its what led to Britt Burns' demise. He won 15 games in 1985, was traded to NY. Hip problems surfaced in spring training, and he never threw another pitch in the major leagues. The hip injury is concerning, especially with the way Contreras throws across his body now. I would have much rather this be a lower body injury (calf, thigh, etc.) than his hip. There's been a few players recently with massive hip problems (Albert Belle).

Whitewashed in '05
Considering he's the best pitcher in baseball right now and he just signed a 3 year deal, I hope this is all just to make sure he gets more than enough rest. f***!
fathom
So we're pitching Garcia, Haeger, and Garland against the Angels? Thankfully they've been slumping recently, but I'd still be shocked if we win the series.

southsideirish71
QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ May 8, 2006 -> 04:40 PM) yeah, hip problems are bad news. id much rather have a sore shoulder. especially if there was an MRI taken and he was so quickly ushered onto the DL. think joey belle folks. The doom and gloom is not needed. He is our best pitcher right now, any injury no matter how minor is going to get an MRI, and about 11 doctors looking at him. He is very imporant to our full season plans. Its better to sit him for 15 days, let his hip heal a bit, than to have him try and tough it out. Most arm injuries are caused by someone trying to overcome a leg or hip injury. They try to tough it out, and then overcompensate with their arms. I think this is a brilliant move, as we have protected the Count from further complications. We have Haeger for the short term, and if it lingers a bit, we bring McCarthy in, and bring a certain old guy we just picked up into the pen.
