If we lose all six, who cares - as long as we win the World Series

370 votes (8%)

We won the World Series. Nothing really could compare ever again

1410 votes (30%)

I voted option number 3, and I'm surprised more haven't.....

I know too many sox fans that would vote number 1 too.

I know the anti-Cub contingent still has a decent pulse, but what this poll tells me is 72% of White Sox fans don't put any more significance on these 6 games than they do on the rest of the season, and more importantly the post-season. I think this is a great indicator of our overall focus.

I bet some of those numbers are skewed by Cubs fans who are trying to make us look bad by f***ing the results to make it look like hating the Cubs is still our #1 agenda

It is on the front of whitesox.com, right? How often do you visit cubs.com? I doubt that it is a lot of Cubs fans skewing the numbers. I think we 25% of our fan base that still needs some reprogramming.

Well the Cubs aren't wound up in the "inferiority complex" crap and hating the Sox and all that s***. And yes it is on the front page of whitesox.com

C'mon guys these games are bigger than baseball--this is a cultural thing.

It is, quite frankly, the World Series of Chicago. No matter what we do afterward, bragging rights for the next year ride on this. Granted, we have the ultimate bragging rights which won't be invalid apparently in this lifetime (we actually won the WS), but no--these games are just games overall, but in Chicago it is all about Us vs. Them.

So yeah I agree these are the biggest games of the season every season. Not the ONLY big games of the season, but the only thing bigger is the playoffs.

And no, being swept by the Cubs would be heart-stopping for Sox fans, even if we won the WS again. Because then the twerps would say "Well, we swept the WS champions."

Look on the bright side: if we beat their ass down, they have NOTHING to say this year.

Are you honestly saying that these games are bigger than Cleveland, Minnesota and Detroit series in August and September? Seriously, of course I don't like the Cubs and I enjoy beating them, and if we lose I'll be pissed off (I dont like losing to anybody). But way too many people out there put too much emphasis on this series. Its fun, and its cool for the city. But with the aspirations that we have for this team, you really think this means a lot in the big picture? Especially with the disparity of success for both teams?

And if you are really worried about what Cub fans will say if they beat us, here's an excellent comeback: 1908. Otherwise, you can choose to stop caring about what Cub fans think (I prefer this option).

It is a major distraction at best and interleague play has lost its luster. I know it is probably here to stay, but I much prefer playing the AL all season over dealing with the NL and all the hassles of interleague play. I know ownership likes the sellouts with the Cubs but I think spread out over the course of a season, extra games with other top teams from the AL will make up the difference from those 3 games. I especially think they should cut all the intercity BS back to a three game series that alternates each year.

See I actually don't mind the intercity/interstate rivals playing 6 games a year. What I don't like seeing is us playing San Francisco or Florida (even though I'd take it this year since Florida is terrible.) If we're going to have interleague play I'd prefere it to be like AL Central vs NL Central. Plus I'd really like to play Milwaukee every year since they used to be in the division.

hassles? distraction? What are you talking about? Are interleague games somehow logistically more difficult? Are the teams in another country or something?

These games are fun. We get to see teams play that wouldn't have before. They are no more/less meaningful than games against AL West or East teams, to me. Plus the rivalry series are fun for the fans. Given that interleague play is, what, 20 games a year per team? I really only see upside to it.

This is where I think a lot of Cardinal fans have us beat. From my experiences around here with them, they see their team as so far above the Cubs that they just brush off the Cub fans with a chuckle after their games. The very thought of a "personal" rivalry is beneath them. I would prefer to have the mindset of just dusting Cub fans off my shoulder once the games are done.

You're preaching to the converted, dude.

I'm saying that it transcends baseball--like I said, it's a cultural thing. Mathematically no it is not as significant, but that's not the point.

But if you're talking about attendance and hype and media attention and passion--you're damn right they're bigger than any Central opponent game--have you not been to one? You'd know what I'm talking about.

MLB should spice up the interleague play. They brought it in so fans could see players and teams they don't usually see. Now how about giving fans a style of baseball they usually don't get to see: Interleague games in AL parks, have the pitcher hit, interleague games in NL parks, have the DH. That could spice up interleague play. But still have the regular rules for postseason

I don't know why so many are so down on interleague play--some of the coolest series last year were IL (Dodgers!). The Rockies series was a blast for us, and San Diego, too.

This year we get the Cards for a classic I-57 series which could easily have been the World Series last year. I love it.

I-55.

I-57 gets you to Champaign and southern Illinois.

But I agree, Interleague games are a good thing.

Been to quite a few. They are fun, and I enjoy the crosstown games as much as the next person. I just fail to see how we as Sox fans would put beating the Cubs as such a high priority. Beating them is nice cause I really dont like the Cubs, but I think we have much bigger fish to fry these days.

I understand the cultural thing and all, but with a World Championship in hand and more in our sights, the Sox/Cubs series seems a little melodramatic. Yes, it gets a lot of hype and media attention, probably moreso than the more important series. I'm just saying that our franchise has gotten to the point where this shouldn't mean so much to us Sox fans. Its this constant need to show everybody that we are better than the Cubs that makes us look kinda silly.

But I guess I did miss your point. In regards to media attention, fan interest and hype, yes, it probably beats any other regular season series. My response was more directed to the 1300 or so people (according to the poll) and the seemingly 15% of our fanbase that still dwells on having a superiority over the Cubs above all else.
