CWSOX45
Thought I'd post this before everyone decides to go insane about being in second place... It's May 18th. That is all.
Kalapse
I'm pretty sure the Sox suck, doesn't really matter what the date is, this team will not being making the playoffs.
sircaffey
We're in the playoffs as of right now. No need to complain.

Yes, this team sucks. They are only on pace to win 105 games. I guess that's not good enough for everyone.
greg775
We don't suck, we have one of the best records out there, but we definitely need to pick it up pitching wise. Like last year we'll go only as far as our pitching and D take us. Sure we can hit ... so what. It's all about pitching and defense. We still have the potential to be the best in both. Soxhawk13
The main thing here is that everyone is panicing because the Sox are in second place. Yes, they are in second place, but look at the reason why. Detroit is playing WAY over their heads. They are a slightly better than .500 team. They'll be coming back to earth soon enough. The Tigers are probably a 86-88 win team, not a team that is going to have a chance to win around 115 games, which is their current pace. The difference is the Sox are 26-14 while they haven't really played that well, and the Tigers are 27-13 playing out of their minds. The Sox are the better team, and in baseball, that shows by the end of the season. So one word of advice: RELAX!!!
fathom
Why does everyone think Detroit sucks? They have a very, very good offense, a strong 5 man rotation, and some good arms in the bullpen. How can you say the Tigers are playing out of their minds, when we're the team with about 5 guys hitting well above their career averages? Outside of Shelton, no one has really hit above their norms for the Tigers so far.

Yesterday I just through a number out there which happend to be 13. Thirteen days from yesterday they Tigers start up a series against the Yankees, I had no idea they were playing the Yakees 12 days from now, that can not be a coincidence. So I'm going with it. That's why they are winning. However, I do see them as a mild threat. Edited May 19, 2006 by sircaffey

You say no one in their lineup is hitting above their career averages, but you dudn't include their pitchers. How many of them are way below their career averages? All of them besides their rook. You can go ahead and give them the trophy. I think they could be a pest, but they are still playing above their heads. And if it ends up that they aren't and they pitch like this all year, they'll win 115 games, and we'll just have to get the WC.

They are a good team, but they will hit a skid like the sox did last year. Hopefully, thats when we will make our move big time and create some space between us and them! PeoriaSoxFan
Lets go kick the Cubs ass and put this string of playing 500 baseball behind us. Go Buehrle! By the way, lets win this one in the spirit of this theme: "Mike Murphy sucks!" I am so sick of hearing this f'n bastard on the SCORE talk about the Cubs all day. Isn't it a Sox station. So, Lets go, Go, Sox, kick the Cubs ass, piss on Mike Murphy, and do it for Johnny.
kramer99
Couldn't you make an argument like this regarding Garland and Contreras last year? Thats the point.... Garland Tailed off the second half of the year and Contreas's first half of the year wasnt so hot if you can remember correctly. He put it together the second half The point is, that my guess, is that neither of these 2 guys will finish with ERAs that low....Robertson may be able to keep his close, there is no way Maroth can. He will go through problems much like garland did last year.

If we are not first happy with ourselves, nothing will be right. Thus, lets worry about the Sox and not the Tiggers. If the Sox take care of biz, the rest will take care of itself. Now, let me go get my prozac to get over this loss and Oz's pitching decisions.

HeGone33
There is no need to write a ton here. Plain and simple, the Tigers had to win seven games in a row to be ahead by one game. No worries, we will own them. On that note, goodnight!!
YASNY
I don't think it's a given the Tigers are going fall out of it. They aren't going to maintain this pace, but they can be a constant pain in our backsides all year. Throw all the ERA's and whatever you have out there, but they don't amount to a hill of beans. Some pitchers learn how to pitch in the big leagues after a few years and that might be the case for the Tigers. It's too early to tell, but you can't assume they will fall back to their previous norms. All that said, I'm confident that this Sox team is just better and will eventually and steadily pull away from the rest of the division.
