Really bizarre.

Before the race Derby winner Barbaro charged through the gate, they had to reset the gate.

Then as they broke from the gate he appeared to be injured and pulled up. Taken off the track in a cart and they say the injury may be career threatening or possibly life threatening for the horse.

Anyone else see this?

Yep....that was just awful. I've never seen a race where no one cared about the winner more than this. He'll be lucky if he survives this.

I was just shocked he ran through the gate like that.

The horse goes from super horse to possibly put to rest in just minutes.

I want a horse to win the triple crown just so they stop talking about it. Every year they blow up the horse that wins the Kentucky Derby and make it out to be the greatest horse since Secretariat, and every year it's just a fluff job to get people to pay attention.

That is true. I don't think there will be another Secretariat, the closest I've ever seen in the short time I've watched it was Charismatic, a decendent of Secretariat (who isn't anymore) and he broke his ankle or something too.

Barbaro standing after surgery. If he gets through this it will be amazing. It's sad that we'll never know if he was triple crown material or not, but he'll always be remembered.

"You do not see this severe injury frequently because the fact is most horses that suffer this typically are put down on the race track."

A very tough horse but most importantly he has caring rich owners who are willing to put the money up for this surgery. I assume they're rich anyways.
