Flash Tizzle
QUOTE(MayIHelpYouMrLennon? @ May 21, 2006 -> 01:19 AM) Mackowiak will get the start because he's a Cub's Killer. But I dont see why you dont want Uribe in the game... his putrid offensive #'s are buried in the 9-hole where he's damage potential is limited. Were going to need his defense to keep guys like Ronny Cedeno and Pierre from just trying to put it on the ground and run it out. Uribe and maybe Crede are the only guys on this team that have the arm strength to put those two away. I'd rather the Cedeno-Pierre combo just swing wildly at crap, but theyre going to try and bunt and leg thier way onto base. I dont want Pierre at 1st distracting Contreras, if he even starts to lose focus... well you know whatll happen. Relying on my memory of Uribe these last few seasons, I recall his feeble swings against Zambrano's breaking pitches. He never appeared comfortable. However, I probably should have browsed career numbers (albeit limited) of both Uribe an Cintron against Carlos. Neither have had much success. I was willing to include Cintron solely because of the difficulty Zambrano has had with left-handers this season. But since we're debating between two hitters whom have an equal amount of difficulty battling Zambrano, it makes sense to go with the player possessing good defense. I'll agree with you there. With Podsednik, AJ, Thome, Mackowiak in the lineup we're alright concerning left-handed presence. DBAHO
I don't expect Contreras to come right out and dominate the Flubs hitters straight away in his 1st outing, nor do I think we should either, even as bad as the Cubs have been hitting. I think he'll still have a good outing tomorrow. And hopefully, as hotheaded as Zambrano is, today's events will take away his focus on mowing down our hitters tomorrow, and that's something we need to take advantage of. The Critic
The thing the Cubs need to worry about with Zambrano, as they ALWAYS have to, is his head. If he gets himself all amped up about it, he'll lose control of himself and that can only help the Sox. From the neck down, he's a tremendous pitcher. His worst enemy is his own lack of maturity and self-control. Of course, Cub fans confuse this for passion, just as they confused Ron Santo's showing up opponents and umpires as passion back in the 60s and 70s. fathom
Zambrano's going to be fist pumping from the first batter on today. The two worries I have about Contreras today are his control, and the fact that the Cubs have about 4 guys in their lineup who will turn a single into a double due to the ease of stealing against Contreras. santo=dorf
Take a look at how s***ty Zambrainless pitches in AL parks I think I know the reason why too. Here's Zambrano's game: Gives up a double to the cleanup hitter Drills the next guy because he thinks he's getting showed up Falls behind the next guy, so he just ends up walking him. Next batter makes some kind of out scoring the run Strike out the .100 batting NL catcher Strike out the opposing pitcher. Point to the sky and does the electric slide off the mound He's a real piece of s*** taking advantage of the NL. I can't wait to rock his ass today. They are having audio issues on Sportscenter, and listening to the highlights with just the crazy guitar solo in the background is hilarious.
