Allsox
I'm so disappointed in Sox fans with this thread. Uribe makes one bad play today and all of a sudden, he sucks now?!?!? I didn't think people needed a reminder of how clutch this guy was in the World Series but since it's the stupid Cubs series, I guess some people still invest more emotion in it and that's pretty sad I'm more mad about the Jacque Jones HR (The Sox hafta be the only team he hits well against) than Juan's error. His inability to hit Zambrano today just added to the frustration that many have had with him. Also his inability to turn a double play did not help his case. You have to remember just because a player was good during the World Series does not mean they get a free pass for life, this is a whole new season and Uribe has yet to do anything this year. But today was the only day I can remember Juan making an error that cost some runs this yr. What other games has he played lazy defense? Balance
I hate to pile on, but it's getting to the point where we can't look past how bad Uribe has been at the plate. I was at the game today, and from right center field, I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on his 8th inning misplay. However, when I saw the play on TV, it's clear that he had plenty of time to make a good throw to first base. If Juan makes that play, the Sox still have a 2 run lead in the 9th. And I'll take my chances with that situation every time. I'd love to see some more Cintron and even Ozuna at short; Juan is not getting it done with the bat or the glove. Maybe a little pine time will help him get it together.

Did you read my post? I'm not getting on Uribe for one bad play. His defense is not on par with what it is last year. The pathetic .195 average just makes it worse. Uribe has been flat bad this year. Can he turn it around? Sure. But Ozzie shouldn't wait too much longer. June is right around the corner and Juan is still clueless.

I know he's been hitting like s*** but his glove has been rock steady this yr. Like I asked Nuke, what other games has he played horrible defense this yr?!? I know today losing hurts, especially cuz the Cubs beat the Sox the way the Sox beat everyone last yr but that's the way it goes sometimes. The Sox took the series and now, they face the one team they almost always play bad against. I'm worried about the A's than Juan defense the rest of the year for sure. There have been some other stinkers he's had but we were fortunate that they didn't bite us in the ass. Like I said. Im not ripping Uribe.......yet..........but he needs to get his act together. What's sad is that the play today wasn't even counted as an error. I think he's been lazy at times in the field. Konerko has saved him from atleast 4 or 5 extra errors this season. Heads22
Uribe's throws have been in the dirt way more than usual.
shoota
Uribe's great defense costed us a win today, a sweep over our intracity rivals, first place in the AL Central and Contreras's win streak. I'm frustrated by his plate approach and hitting results. Alex Cintron please. On the rare occasions Uribe does get a 2-0 count, he always swings at the next pitch no matter where it is thrown or what type of pitch it is. He's guessing fastball which is fine, but he needs to take the pitch if it isn't what he expected. I'll say it: Juan Uribe is a dumb hitter. Balance
I just don't think Juan has done very much to protect his job this season. I don't think you can say he's played well enough to keep Cintron from getting some more consistent ABs. Greg The Bull Luzinski
QUOTE(TaylorStSox @ May 21, 2006 -> 06:27 PM) Uribe's the new Crede. Difference: Sox fans had high hopes for Crede because of his performance in the minors When has anybody ever expectmore than .250 and good defense from Uribe. Neither of which has he done consistently. That is what is most maddening. He is so raw that do we really know what to expect from him? More like Uribe is the new Jose Valenin, living off a few good moments for too long.

SoxAce
He pissed me off too. If you can't do it with the bat, do it with the glove at least. That's why I haven't been on BA's case like alot of posters haven been (as a matter of fact I've been one of the few backers of the rookie, always liked him as a player) Uribe is just not getting it done right now. Maybe Ozzie should do the same thing he did with BA to Uribe and bench him for a couple games to get his head on straight.

shoota
QUOTE(TaylorStSox @ May 21, 2006 -> 06:27 PM) Uribe's the new Crede. haha, ever since Crede came off the DL last August he's been a quality player. Uribe's performance is unacceptable, especially when the Sox have a legit replacement already on the roster in Alex Cintron. Uribe's undisciplined hitting approach is a peeve of mine and it hurts to watch. And I haven't liked the bullpen since Spring Training. KW has had months to acquire dominant bullpen arms and has thus far failed. We have a few decent bullpen guys, but I demand dominant bullpen pitchers.
