Gregory Pratt
Vazquez is head and shoulders above Jon Garland on their best days. He'll be fine. And this inning wasn't THAT bad at all.

And this inning wasn't THAT bad at all. Considering both guys are making almost 10 million dollars this season, I'd sincerely hope they're pretty damn good on their best days. TitoMB345
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 23, 2006 -> 08:08 PM) Vazquez is head and shoulders above Jon Garland on their best days. He'll be fine. And this inning wasn't THAT bad at all. I disagree. When Big Jon is on, he's dominating. Remember those 2 straight, 4 hit shutouts last year? fathom
Is it me, or is Vaz throwing his fastball for strikes like 20 pct of the time tonight? Good thing he has a good change going.
Flash Tizzle
I'm glad Vazquez waited 4 innings to have a fastball above 86 mph.
Gregory Pratt
QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 23, 2006 -> 08:09 PM) I disagree. When Big Jon is on, he's dominating. Remember those 2 straight, 4 hit shutouts last year? Feel free to disagree. Four shutouts doesn't a better pitcher make. Vazquez is excellent. Garland is not. And that'll establish itself by the end of the season even to those who don't believe it already.

Ndgt10
This game seems like fate has it in for us. We shouldn't have won that game last tonight, but we did. Now we jump out to a 5-0 lead and think we should cruise, but not so much... Edited May 24, 2006 by Ndgt10

I think he hit the ball. The worst thing was the Colon blew a 2 run lead the night before because he couldn't retire one particular player.....CHRIS SINGLETON! Gregory Pratt
QUOTE(fathom @ May 23, 2006 -> 08:12 PM) Your definition of excellent must be quite different than most of ours. Vazquez is one of those guys who looks better on the mound than his results end up being. If it is, I feel I've got a better standard for excellence. Javier Vazquez is head and shoulders above Jon Garland. His biggest problem is that he gives up the long ball, and that's been his historical problem. His WHIP is excellent. Today, though, he's had to throw in a VERY small strike zone, and that helps explain and justify some of the pitching. I do dislike his tendency to get rattled and shaky when he's angry, but everyone gets like that when they've gotta get five outs or are being shafted at the plate.
