JoeBatterz
Enjoy! Sport Syndicate A compiliation of Power Rankings focusing only on the defending World Champion Chicago White Sox. As always, the various rankings come out on different days, so they will not all be as current as others. CBS Sportsline: #1 They're not in first place for once, but they can't be expected to go wire-to-wire in back-to-back seasons. Also, they still have the head-to-head edge on the upstart Tigers (3-0). ESPN: #1 The White Sox have serious middle-of-the-order power. Jim Thome, Paul Konerko and Jermaine Dye have combined for 35 HRs and 101 RBI. We're tempted, very tempted. Looking at the standings, which team now owns baseball's best record? Not the White Sox. Not the Cardinals. And not the Red Sox or the Yankees. Yes, it's Jim Leyland's Detroit Tigers. And they're tantalizingly close to pushing the defending champion White Sox out of the No. 1 spot, where Chicago has enjoyed a rather comfortable five-week stay in ESPN.com's Power Rankings. We couldn't put the Tigers at 1A, so No. 2 -- a six-spot climb -- will have to do for now. The combination of Detroit's perfect 6-0 week and Chicago's rather mediocre mark against Minnesota and Tampa Bay has the Tigers on the cusp of a Power Ranking knockdown. The two AL Central rivals don't meet until June 6, but keep an eye on the Motor City upstarts. Maybe next week they'll provide us with an even more compelling reason to execute a White Sox overthrow. Fox Sports: #2 Mark Buehrle makes a sort of history by becoming the first pitcher since 1900 to cough up seven or more runs in the first inning and still get the win. And Jim Thome won’t stop hitting: .288 AVG/.432 OBP/.689 SLG, on pace for 68 homers. Six-game home stand against the Cubs and A’s begins Friday RotoTimes: #2 Jim Thome is a machine, but Brian Anderson has been playing so badly that while the trade has worked out well for the ChiSox, if they had a capable centerfielder, it would have turned out much better. Sports Illustrated: #1 They don't have the best record in baseball anymore -- heck, they're not even leading their division -- but World Series champions that can score like they can, with that kind of pitching, are tough to kick out of the top spot. Plus, how can you not absolutely love that teddy bear of a catcher, A.J. Pierzynski? Team Rankings by Mike Greenfield: #9 The Sports Network: #1 Still #1, maybe that's A.J. Pierzynski was pointing out while rounding the bases after homering off of Carlos Zambrano. TSN-Canada: #13 With Jose Contreras injured and Mark Buehrle losing his edge right now, the White Sox don't have the overpowering pitching that made them World Series champs. Key Injuries: RHP Jose Contreras (hip). USA Today's Sports Weekly: #1 USA Today Individual Award Rankings: AL MVP: Jim Thome #1 AL Cy Young: Jose Contreras #2 Odds to WIN the World Series: 3-1 (Best in Baseball, Mets lead the NL at 5-1.) TitoMB345
Lol @ Canada. Man, if a pitcher with a 2.88 ERA is "losing his edge," I wonder what you got to do to be "average."

rangercal
Those morons have been rating us low all year. Even right after we swept the Tigers, they had us ranked after them. It's canada afterall, they are not used to quality. They probably think the CFL is by far more talented than the NFL.

JoeBatterz
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 23, 2006 -> 09:12 PM) And who the hell is Mike Greenfield? Greenfield uses computers to crank out his rankings. Obviously, his formula is flawed.
