You're going to make him look a lot better if you take his fastball, and swing at his offspeed pitch.

 

That's because he disguises it really really well. Arm angle and release point look very similar, the hitters need to figure out some tendancies of what this guy throws when in the count ... and fast.

Good observation. Right now, our hitters are in-between against Haren. They have to take away either his fastball or splitter. Since they're not going to touch his splitter, they might as well look to rip the heater. Mackowiak's inability to lay off of a 58 footer really hurt in the 2nd.

I'm usually with you complaining about our hitter's approach. However, Haren has some dynamite stuff so far.
