Guest JimH
I wish Hawk would talk about his days with oakland... like how he got tossed out of the clubhouse and nearly came to fistacuffs with charlie finley From the "We really don't care" department ... He actually played for the Kansas City A's, before they moved to Oakland after the 1967 season. Charlie Finley was the owner and he was the guy who moved the franchise to Oakland. The ballpark the KC A's played in was Municipal Stadium, a fairly small facility which stood at the intersection of 22nd and Brooklyn Ave. about 2 miles east of downtown KC. It was several blocks south of the famous Arthur Bryant's BBQ restaurant which is still there. In fact Charlie Finley used to pop for BBQ dinners on a whim when the team played well or there was some other special occasion. Harrelson actually played in the game at Municipal Stadium where Early "Gus" Wynn got his 300th victory as a 43 yr. old member of the KC A's (it was Wynn's last victory) in 1963. The former site of Municipal Stadium is partially a vacant lot and partially a community garden, appropriately enough called Old Ballpark Garden. It is such a small site that one would never imagine a ballpark could fit there. Sorry for the off track, back to your regularly scheduled game thread. That's true...but both of the strikes he got were borderline. His slider wasn't sharp at all last night. Lets hope he has better stuff tonight. This is the only batter he'll face. chitownsportsfan
Crawford would be nice, and I was big for aquiring him this winter, but I think the Dbacks would have wanted half the farm in return. I think it might have required Garland/Contreras and a prospie for him, which just wasn't worth it.
