Chisoxfn
Hot Or Not: May 24th By Tyler James Tyler James is back after a week layoff, ready to deliver the Sox hot or not list. After struggling two weeks ago, the Sox managed to recover from a rough series against the Devil Rays, by taking 2 of 3 from the lowly Cubs. Despite a mediocre record (by Sox standards) the pitching staff and team made great strides from 2 weeks ago's losing week. HITTER OF THE WEEK- A.J. PIERZYNSKI After layin’ the smack down on not only Michael Barrett but opposing pitchers last week, A.J. earns the honors. Now providing as much power as Dye and Konerko, A.J. hit for a high average and as always was in the middle of more controversy. Stats for Week- .412 AVG/ .500 OBP/ 7 H/ 2 2B/ 5 R/ 1 HR/ 3 BB/ 1 TKO PITCHER OF THE WEEK- FREDDY GARCIA Freddy Garcia pitched brilliantly in both of his games this week. It seems that whenever a pitcher pitches twice in a week, they step up and raise their game. Freddy shut down the both the Cubs and Twins. Freddy hasn’t thrown with his old velocity, but his movement still is tricky and baffles hitters. PITCHING PERFORMANCE- MARK BUEHRLE Mark Buehrle shut the mouths of all Cubs fans in his complete game on Friday. Buehrle was nearly unhittable and only allowed two hits. Buehrle returned to his form after the horrible 1st inning against the Twins last Sunday. SUB OF THE WEEK- ROB MACKOWIAK Rob got a full week of play in this week and stepped up big time. In Monday’s game he hit the game tying pinch-hit homerun in the bottom of the eighth inning off of A’s closer Huston Street. Known as a Cub-killer with the Pirates, he again hit the Cubs well. He is a good fill in while Anderson continues to struggle. NOT HE GONE- BOONE LOGAN Finally!!! I have been awaiting this moment for quite some time now. As most of you know, or should know, Logan was sent down for Agustin Montero and now Jeff Nelson. Logan pitched very inconsistently. He would sometimes look untouchable and then next thing and then he would start walking people and getting hit all over the ballpark. He showed some potential and is a very raw pitcher. Some time in Triple A will serve him well. GRAB SOME BENCH??-JUAN URIBE Uribe had another cold week hitting under the Mendoza line. Uribe is one of those players, who when he is off, he is off terribly. He looks terrible at the plate and reverts back to the wild swinger he was in Colorado. Look for Cintron to step in, as he has proved himself as a viable option at shortstop. HITLESS WONDER- BRIAN ANDERSON Although he did not play the full slate of games, Anderson was held hitless. I love the kid’s enthusiasm, but he just can’t hit. Hopefully he can turn it around by the All-Star Break. If not, a call-up for Sweeney could be in the future. Maybe the brawl and putting Mabry in the hospital will in someway improve his approach at the plate.
BigSqwert
How is Crede not included in the "Not" section? Having a pretty bad 2 week stretch at the plate. Edited May 24, 2006 by BigSqwert
greasywheels121
Good article. I almost feel that USCF or the fans should be in the hot section. For the home success the Sox have had, and the reception Frank got.
