SoxFan1
Serbia/Argentina to play tomorrow morning. It'll be tough for the Serbs. As if it wasn't hard enough to contain the Argentinian attack, I found out that Nemanja Vidic, our 2nd best defender, who plays for Machester United, is out with an injured knee. Unbelievably bad luck for us. First, Vucinic (Lecce) hurts himself, then Petkovic pulls out right before the cup, and now Vidic is out. It's a must win. If we win, and Netherlands loses to CIV, then the entire group ends with 3 points after 2 matches. I'd definitely like that, considering we'd face off versus the Ivory Coast and Netherlands/Argentina are left to beat up on eachother. Any way you look at it, a must win. And I'll certainly be cheering.
SleepyWhiteSox
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 08:47 PM) Explain that to the Brazilians who have been winning with the big names for years. As long as nobody is having convulsions.
3 BeWareTheNewSox 5
In other news, Eddie Johnson is an idiot. Keeps comparing the game Saturday to a war and referring to his team as the troops. Yeah, it might be a little unpopular to bring up a war when your country is involved in one and you have to travel in a concealed team bus because of it. DBAHO
I'm afraid the World Cup looks over for your team SoxFan1. Argentina's still my pick to win it all. They look very good at this stage.

LosMediasBlancas
You guys make a good point about the real power houses getting off to a slow start. The Brazilians have always done this, watch them turn it up a notch in the next rounds. As for Ecuador, nice story and it's been a lot of fun, but I also think it ends in the next round. Overall, it would be great for the sport to see some of these other countries making some noise instead of it always being Brazil, Argentina, Germany and Italy cup after cup after cup. SoxFan1
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 09:46 AM) Wow 6-0. This is awful for Serbia. Thats what happens when your team quits after 1 half and your team stops playing. It was emberassing. Pitiful. Petkovic needs to be fired. Absolutely horrible game plan. Right now, I am emberassed of my team and my country. Edited June 16, 2006 by SoxFan1

whitesoxfan101
Netherlands leads the Ivory Coast 2-1 after quite a first half of play. Should be 45 great minutes in the 2nd.

They are probably only behind the Netherlands, Brazil, and Argentina in fan support, numbers wise.

Looks and sounds like a home game in there, especially with all of the "Ole!"...fun stuff, I'm impressed... Too many missed goals though. DonkeyKongerko
Wow Argentina had more offense today than probably half the teams in the Cup so far. A big disappointment for Serbia who has more talent than we've seen. I'm really anxious about what kind of US team shows up tomorrow. If we can keep Italy off the board early, I think they'll settle in a bit and maybe show some more creativity on offense.

I think the teams morale went down the s***ter once we found out that Vidic was out. We just got overmatched and got the hardest schedule. 3 BeWareTheNewSox 5
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 12:48 AM) I guess I will send the same memo to the countless NFL players who do the same thing every sunday. Do it when they play on foreign soil against foreign teams. Especially in current times. People will get the wrong message with the translation. Arena apologized for the comments today, saying it was dumb to say it was more than a game and that he appreciates that Italy is an ally in the real war. This after the Italian media thought it was dumb and saying to take it easy with the references with their family in the stands. Similar to how dumb KG sounded when he made his comparison, but worse on foreign land
LosMediasBlancas
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 03:25 PM) Looks and sounds like a home game in there, especially with all of the "Ole!"...fun stuff, I'm impressed... Too many missed goals though. That is always the criticism against Mexico on the big stage, they don't have enough finishers. Defensively, they play well and they can be creative on offense, but simply can't put the ball in the net. Mexico blew it, Angola was the team for them to beat. The next macth against Portugal will be tougher for them and now they have to at least tie, not an easy task.
DBAHO
Portugal gonna beat Iran 2-0. Not their best performance, dominated possesion, but they got the job done. Cristiano Ronaldo is gonna be their key guy when it's all said and done. He HAS to stay 100% fit for them to have ANY chance.
SoxFan1
Portugal is going along the lines of England here. 2 wins, 2 less than spectacular performance, but they are both getting the job done. It will be interesting to see how both do in the coming rounds.
