fathom
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 26, 2006 -> 10:26 PM) I think we should use Fields as trade bait, then use him to pick up some relievers or whatever other spots we need help at. I'd keep Crede. Personally, I'm going to be pissed off if we trade Fields for a reliever. The only exceptions would be if it's a top-notch reliever, but that type of pitcher likely won't be available.
DBAHO
QUOTE(fathom @ May 27, 2006 -> 08:36 AM) Personally, I'm going to be pissed off if we trade Fields for a reliever. The only exceptions would be if it's a top-notch reliever, but that type of pitcher likely won't be available. Or if we can say trade Josh Fields for a Jonathan Broxton, but that would probably be unlikely. I'd prefer to keep both, and have Fields in LF. Then all you'd have to worry about is who would be your next leadoff hitter.
beck72
Crede is a cornerstone to build around. His kind of glove doesn't come around often. He hits better than .250 and he's worth every penny. I doubt Fields would play the kind of defense the sox need and want in the OF. The sox don't want to sacrifice defense for offense again. Right now, Fields has the most value of any Sox prospect. He's most likely to be dealt for pitching help at the deadline.

I don't see Fields defense in the OF as a "huge" issue. He's got a pretty good arm, and he should be able to learn the position ok. If he's going to make it for us, it's going to be for his offensive output. I don't think you can trade a guy who's doing what he's doing offensively in his 1st season of AAA, just for bullpen help. I wrote "pitching help", meaning mulitple arms [someone who could contribute for the stretch run into playoffs, and maybe a good arm or two from the minors]. Though who knows what the market will be come July as every team wants a very good late inning guy. Hopefully it won't take a Fields. I see Owens as expendable, certainly Rogowski. Maybe a SP from AA or AAA. To get the maximum value for Fields a deal would have to be made in the offseason.
Leonard Zelig
Has Fields played any outfield down in Charlotte?
Dick Allen
I still think the White Sox consider Fields a 3rd baseman. If the plan was to move him to the OF, you would think they would move him immediately. He's a lot more valuable in a trade as a 3rd baseman.
