AngelasDaddy0427
I just thought i'd make a thread dedicated to seeing if any of the current in house options we have could play decent enough defense so we could at the very least sent BA down for a month to get his s*** together... The only names I can think of off the top of my head would be Ryan Sweeney and Darrin Blakley... Of course I know nothing about their defense... Could any of them do the job. It's hard to imagine they could be worse offensively then BA... could they fill in on defense just long enough for BA to get his ass in gear... DBAHO
Darren Blakely - .173/.244/.264 in Charlotte. My god that's actually worse than BA's line. Sweeney would be the only option, but you've got to remember, this is his 1st season in AAA and although he's hitting well (.300/.357/.393), he only has 140 AB's down at that level, and only 7 have gone for extra bases. So in other words, my suggestion would be trade Ross Gload and a fringe prospect for a Corey Hart or Ryan Church, then you wouldn't even have to demote BA, as one of those guys would be used more than Gload, and you let Ryan Sweeney develop at his own pace. Brian Anderson had a full season in AAA and produced fairly well you have to remember.

Yep, and that would worry the hell out of a lot of people here, if you remember the Kansas City fiasco.

Heads22
There are no other options to play CF unless you want a guy coming off the DL in Sweeney or a guy who won't hit his own weight.
winninguglyin83
sweeney has always been a corner outfielder until this season. he's young. has very AAA at bats. Not the answer. Time for KW to work his magic.
Jim Spencer
Darren Blakely - .173/.244/.264 in Charlotte. My god that's actually worse than BA's line. Darren was demoted to Birmingham a couple of weeks ago. He's batting .319 though Jerry Owens is batting .234 and he doesn't really have any power, he's more of a gap-hitter. Kenny is going to have to find some one outside the organization or stick with BA.
Chisoxrd5
If we address CF before we go after a bullpen arm or two Imma gonna be pissed off... BTW statheads can I get the White Sox record when BA starts compared to when Mack starts in CF?
Dick Allen
The fact that Pablo is working out in CF tells you all you need to know about the major league readiness of White Sox minor leaguers who could legitimately play CF. Defense is key in CF. Mackowiak has cost the Sox at least 3 runs in the last 3 games he's played CF. Anderson's lack of hitting hasn't cost the White Sox so far. Eventually, it probably will, but eventually he also probably will hit. Fix the bullpen and this team will be fine.

Chisoxrd5
QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 05:11 AM) Pablo Ozuna has been working out in center. Podsednik should be embarrassed knowing that instead of moving him back to CF, they are considering Pablo Ozuna out there. I still can't believe Pod's has 5 errors in LF already this year, he is lapping the field in errors. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 09:33 AM) WHy the CF talk again today? I dont think that was the issue at all in this series. Well I do agree with you, because the bullpen was torched yesterday. But a solid CFer would have caught at least one of those doubles. As we already know Mack is at best average out there and it is costing us some runs.

SoxHawk1980
Ozzie is obviously a good manager, but he does have some failings. One of them is his Pablo Ozuna fetish. He has little OF experience and has been awful in LF this season, and now Ozzie is going to put him in CF??? That's one of those Ozzie decisions that absolutely boggles the mind. Ozuna can't read a fly ball to save his life and now he's got 50% more ground to cover. I know Podsednik is not exactly a GG caliber OFer, but he'd be a hell of a lot better CFer than Ozuna. Ozzie said he didn't want to move Podsednik to CF because he hasn't played CF since he came to the Sox. Well, where has Ozuna been playing since he came to the Sox. This makes no sense. Hopefully Ozuna won't have many chances.

And Ozzie loves him for it. Is he a starting CF no, is his defense suspect sure. Will he get a chance because he busts his ass on the field day in and day out, you bet. And lets get is straight ahead of time, I am not for Ozuna going into CF. I think he is an adventure in LF, but Ozzie loves this kid as a sparkplug. And Ozuna hitting 9th gives the sox 2 leadoff hitters.
