I missed the game he pitched up here. How is this kids knuckler? In a relief situation, he could be very effective to a few hitters. Going from our starters to a guy who throws a good knuckle ball is very tough.

Walk city. They couldn't hit him, but they didn't have to -- he put them on by missing the strike zone a LOT. http://tinyurl.com/hqyld

I had high hopes, because I remember Wilbur Wood and how he used to not only tie the opposing batters in knots, but he was tireless; the knuckler takes so little out of a pitcher's arm.

Haeger is very young. From what I understand, it takes a while to perfect the knuckler. Maybe he'll be back.

oh dear lord, not montero again. Why us? Why now?

I thought the exact same thing when I first read the article. Not Montero again, certainly we have better pitcher in AAA then him.

Man do we need pitching help! :huh

AAA success doesn't seem to translate into ML success when it comes to our prospects. I am not sure who we have at the Charlotte or Birmingham clubs that can get out major league hitters on a regular basis. Of course sometimes I wonder who on the ML roster can get hitters out sometimes.

I really don't think there's any pitcher at Charlotte who could really contribute right now. Unfortunately, there are pitchers in Chicago who can't contribute right now. If Politte wants to be useful, maybe he can throw to Thome in home run derby.

f*** Jeff nelson and his rolling slider. Hes done.

Yet, last week I was criticized for not believing Nelson would become an effective addition to our bullpen. It was clear as f***ing daylight he wasn't going to offer us much of anything.

I "gave him a chance," as others have insisted, and he showed us NOTHING. First indication should have been the Cardinals releasing him. Second should have been the obvious drop in velocity and over reliance on a hanging slider.

The red flags were all over the place regarding our bullpen this year. For crying out loud we had a single A guy in our pen on opening day.

Of course there was. For everyone who opened their minds and questioned whether Cotts/Politte would have numbers similar to 05', or McCarthy could even adjust to inconsistent work. Not to mention our organization promoted a single A player to our bullpen. Yes, he dominated Spring Training; but there's a reason few teams follow a similar path.

As has been said before, trading Marte and Vizcaino wasn't a poor decision in itself. Not trading for pitchers capable of duplicating their numbers was. This was neglected. Our idea seemed to be, "well, we have 9 lefties here in Spring Training. Maybe one will pitch well."

It's very hard to predict the perfofrmance of bullpen pitchers from one year to the next. Almost all of them are very inconsistent. vizcaino and marte were crap for most of last year.

Viz is actually one of the easiest. 1 good year, 1 bad year, 1 good year, 1 bad year.

Which is why Cliff should have been used instead of Luis in that deal. Unfortunately I can't prove it but that's exactly what I told some friends when that deal went down.

You act like that could have been done. You don't know that the D-Backs would have accepted a trade like that when the fact of the matter is no one knows for sure what they wanted. Perhaps they knew like many that Cliff would be slamming back down to earth this year like he has.
