Corey Patterson?

He's doin real well for the O's but his D has always been suspect.

A quick look at Bal's minors suggests that they could use some guys.

What is you opinion as a Sox fan on this erratic ex-cub?

Is Patterson worth Fields and a lower spect?

personally, i was one of the few who advocated a deal for him in the off season as insurance for anderson.

id love to see him here, 5 tools, and just figuring it out again. and he can steal up 6 runs in the 7th on my team anyday,

I agree. If Baltimore was willing to deal, I would be all for trading for a 5 tool guy who is still in his 20s.

IIRC, his agent is Boras.

This is true, Scott Boras is his agent, this however would not be a major problem until after the '07 season when he becomes a free agent. Of course there is always his last year of arbitration which is upcomming after '06.

hmmm, Rogo+Anderson? thats a pretty nice return for only having to give up two lowely 2nd base prospects and it gets them younger, frees up $$$ for pitching and gives them control of both for a while.

Corey Patterson has sucked for 5 years. He's in a new league, but the pitchers will figure this guy out sooner or later. I'm afraid he would get here and become the Corey Patterson Chicago fondly remembers. I'd look elsewhere.

I heard a Score interview with a Baltimore paper guy and he said that they basically brought him in for his D and that it's been very good.

He'd be placed in the 8th or 9th spot, so he could just do his thing, and more speed.

I actually thought the Yankees were definately going to trade for him before they signed for Damon

I think that Corey Patterson confuses people more than pretty much any other player in the majors. If we're talking defense, he's excellent, he's above average, he's merely average, he's below average, he's atrocious, etc. The stuff that I've been reading is just amazing.

All I know is that he is 26 out of 27 in SB opportunities, he leads the league in bunt-hits, and he is approaching a .300 batting average. Has he sucked for 5 years? Sure. How old is he now? Only 26. Am I gonna go on record and say that we should look elsewhere? Hell no. Some of them numbers are pretty f***ing telling. You don't disregard a guy who is murder on the basepaths & has the potential to finish with a .340 OBP, .280 AVG, and 100+ runs while leading the league in steals and bunt-hits. We should look elsewhere for what, exactly?

The bunt-hits alone should be a red flag that this guy is finally starting to get it. USE YOUR MOTHERf***ING SPEED, COREY. Hit the ball on the ground every single time unless the situation calls for a fly ball (sac fly) or whatever.

I'm not in favor of trading for him, just because of his strikeout numbers, but don't forget he will get to play the Cubs 6 times a year and 81 of his games will be in Chicago, soooo, he would have a lot to prove, or at least rub it into the Cubs faces if he does well. It may not be a bad move, but I don't think Balto would trade him now.

What's so bad about 96 strikeouts (what he's currently on pace for)? He's only walked 11 times compared to his 32 Ks but the guy is still finding ways to get on base, I have no problem with a player striking out around 100 times if he's going to be getting on base anyway and when he is on base taking 2 extra bases with his sick speed. Hell Jermaine Dye is currently on pace for 105 strikeouts, Podsednik 99, Konerko 120 and Iguchi an unsettling 150.

Would you turn down Iguchi because he's struck out 18 more times this year than Patterson and has only walked 5 more times?

I'm just going by the times I saw him with the Cubs, but it isn't the amount, it's the timing. What worries me is if the Sox are down by a run and have a man on second and no outs, that Corey is going to be swinging for the Dan Ryan instead of popping one over the 2B head. Or bunting to move the guy over. If he is willing to do that...climb aboard Corey. But if he's trying to hit a kid on the Fundamentals deck...stay in Balto.

That's one of the biggest changes Corey has made, he's not so focused on HRs anymore, he actually realizes how valuable his speed and contact hitting are now so he's more looking to get the ball on the ground than he is lift it in the air. From what I've seen from him in Baltimore he's a new man, he's completely revamped his style of play and would fit in perfectly at the bottom of the Sox' order.

who ever said his D is suspect? the guy has absolutely incredible range and a pretty good arm. it is true that he isnt quite as polished as youd like him to be (at least 2 years ago) but in those two years im sure hes progressed. as for his offense, what he is doin right now isnt a mirage.....his average is a little high probably, but the SBs are for real, and anyone who has seen him hit BP knows 7 homers isnt alot for him

I haven't seen him in Baltimore at all, I'm just going by his Cubs run. So, if that is true, then get him...he still worries me though.

If we can get him and Latroy Hawkins, GOLDEN!, the guy has turned his swing into more of a line drive swing and just about every homerun he has hit this year has been very dye-esk it just looks like a line drive and then *poof* its gone! The O's have moved him up in the order the past few games, hes curently batting 6th instead of 8th where he was a few weeks ago, this is going to present more RBI opportunities for him. im intrestead to see how he handles it.

Oh the irony of that. Patterson and Hawkins, two guys run out of town by Cub fans helping us to a repeat. GOLDEN! indeed.
