Jayson Stark on Cintron

Although Uribe is my favorite Sox player, so forgive me if I sound biased here. And I do love what Cintron can bring to the table, but theres no way we forget about what Uribe's defense can do for a pitching staff that still hasnt found its groove. Granted that he's barely hitting over .200, Cintron is barely .270 himself. Its not that big of an offensive upgrade. I personally love Cintron's role right now, he's such a great clutch hitter, and can play 2B/SS/3B, I would much rather see him as a spot player and leave Uribe starting as SS.

Dude the difference between 200 and 270 is huge.

i've been making that call since the day we traded for him. i loved this kid in arizona.

It's either going to be Uribe or Anderson. Given what Uribe did for the team last year, I can't honestly think Cintron is going to take over the starters roll. If they get rid of both, which seemingly most of this board wants, we're in for a MASSIVE downgrade in defense. Great clutch homer from Cintron, but Uribe is the starting shortstop.

One would think if you were comparing everyday players, but considering he's about 3 or 4 0-4's that would slide it back down to where Uribe is. My point is, try not to slob over someones knob because of one huge hit and just simply forget about what Uribe has meant to this ballclub the past couple of years.

Cintron is not that much if any upgrade in the hitting department and Uribe is a much better fielder.

Are you friggin kidding me? Cintron, career .272 hitter, .727 OPS...hitting .269, .647 this year. While that OPS is actually bad, it's 86 points better than Uribe, and in the long run, I'd have to imagine Cintron's would be nearer .700-.725.

If Mackowiak is out there killing this team with his defense to push BA, then I have no problem with Cintron at SS pushing Uribe...atleast Cintron is respectable at SS, opposed to Mack who is friggin dreadful in CF.

I don't think we're pushing Uribe aside, I think we're rather hoping Uribe picks it up with the stick. Everyone of us has seen first hand what the man can do with a glove, but defensive specialists are bench players. If you want to start, you have to be able to hit too.

(and for the record, Cintron would have to go 0 for his next 32 to be at Uribe's average)
