jphat007
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 08:26 PM) As myself and others have said all season, that's something that should have been addressed in the offseason. Who thought Politte would suck and get hurt like this. I don't think anybody expected him to be around 2.00 but 4.00 wasn't out of the question. There was NO spot open but the second lefty and that has turned out to be a plus. You don't go out and get a guy who may or may not be good and replace Politte. That doesn't make sense. Balta1701
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 07:28 PM) I'm still scratching my head over that play by Gomez. How is that not a hit and and error? Because we're at home, and Cintron gets the hit then.
whitesoxfan101
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 09:28 PM) I'm still scratching my head over that play by Gomez. How is that not a hit and and error? Same type of deal as the Uribe play vs. the Cubs. You couldn't give Uribe an error since you can't assume the double play, and Crede was being waved from 3rd all the way here. Although Crede is a dead goose with a clean throw, you can't assume a clean throw to get him at home, and Cintron stayed at 1st, so no error is charged. Yeah, but he's not really talking about Politte's spot, he's talking about the spot that went, successively, to Hermanson, Logan, Nelson, Montero thus far. Guest JimH
He let Montero face Gomez (a lefty) Gomez is not the hitter Granderson is. He is testing Montero out, he needs to know if he can rely on this guy in tough, pressure situations. This team does not need another righthanded specialist, they have one already if/when Nelson comes back. They need a guy like Vizcaino who can go a whole inning, or 1 1/3 innings. Montero was throwing well in AAA, it appears he's throwing strikes. This is about a close/tough situation as you're gonna get in June ... a perfect opportunity for Guillen to see what Montero is made of. Not sure why this board doesn't understand the concept of letting these guys show what they can do. If there were a million good bullpen arms available around the league, then I would understand it a bit more. There aren't, they have to see what some of these guys can do. jphat007
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 08:30 PM) We had THE Boone Logan and a very unimpressive Matt Thornton to start the season in the pen.... Well Thornton turned into the second lefty. Now that spot really isn't there anymore.

I was very worried about Politte coming into the year, as I constantly repeated how he was the luckiest statistical pitcher in baseball. But as you know, I was concerned about almost everyone coming into this season, so I won't pat myself on the back.

whitesoxfan101
Konerko pokes a groundout to 2nd on a good pitch by Zumaya. Jermaine up now....and he swings through a 98 gasser, 1-1 count. Fastball up, 2-1. Jermaine looking to take both 100 MPH guys from Detroit deep tonight. Swings at a good pitch and nada, 2-2 count. Gasses JD upstairs, and he gone. We're heading to the 9th up 4-3. COME ON JENKS!!

Chisoxfn
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 06:28 PM) Thats whats inexcusable. Having to put Montero in a 1 run game against the Tigers, and he is your best option... I realize he got the outs, but did he look good doing it? I wish I got home just a bit earlier so I could have watched. Was he locating his off-speed stuff or was it just the FB?

Politte was our setup man coming into the season, not Hermanson. Montero is in Politte's spot and Tracey is in the spot you mentioned. Well, I supposed Bmac is mainly the setup now and MOntero is just there behind him. It's confusing. Edited June 8, 2006 by jphat007
