Chisoxfn
Mark Haley will become the new Baron's hitting coach, replacing Greg Ritchie, who was promoted to Charlotte(AAA) after Greg Walker was hired as the new White Sox hitting coach. Haley is coming from the Great Falls White Sox and has been a part of the White Sox organization for the past twelve years. During his stint with the organization, Haley has served as hitting coach for Winston Salem (1999-2002) and as manager of Hickory (A) in 1998. Also: The Barons added two pitchers to the roster, which gives them a total of 23 on the active roster. They activated RHP Rob Purvis, who missed most of last season with an injury. They also called up RHP Brandon O'Neal from Winston Salem (High A). O'Neal was 0-0 with a save this season and had a 4.95 ERA in 16 appearances. MnSoxFan
O'Neil has done nothing to deserve a callup. Jeesh, look at his BBs ratio. Horrible
Chisoxfn
O'Neil has done nothing to deserve a callup. Jeesh, look at his BBs ratio. Horrible He was pretty bad last year in the Angels organization. Still, its kind of odd that they would keep going with a 23 man roster. I'd like to see Yan and Reed move up to Birmingham to fill their roster. Then when Cotts gets healthy, you move O'Neal back down to Winston Salem. MnSoxFan
Yes, I think they sometimes take players who are not as highly rated a prospect and move them around more than jerking a high grade prospect from level to level for a week or two. Makes sense I guess. Must mean Neil is not in too bad a shape, Bullard mentioned that too, that Neil was precautionary.

Why do they keep going with a 23 man roster??? Because the Minor League roster is only 23 players, except for the first and last months of the season, when it is 24. How come they keep the roster smaller? Is it mainly because there is no use in having guys that soley come off the bench because they wouldn't be getting the time to develop? I just assumed it was a 25 man roster. Thanks for the FYI, cause now I know.

I wasn't in the meetings when roster sizes were set, so I can only guess by that. LOL And wasn't Mark Haley at Winston-Salem this year also?? Chisoxfn
He could of been. I mean if they are paying him, no point in just letting him wait for June 16th or 17th when Great Falls starts playing. I just know he was part of the Great Falls staff.

Rex, is his salary based on June 16th or 17 till the end of the year or does he help out as kind of a roving instructor before that or spend time in Arizona? I have no idea how they are paid, but I would think that Minor League coaches salaries are based on the year. Since he was at full season W-S the last couple of years, I wouldn't think he would go back to "rookie-ball" pay.
