palesox38
I don't know why alot of people on here keep bringing up Josh Fields as a possible trade candidate. He's a top prospect and if they can't get a deal done with Crede, (lets remember he's a Boras client) then he is most likely your man in the future. BTW, I've heard his name brought up as a possible outfielder if they can't get a deal done for someone. I don't know about that idea, I'de still like to see a Clark or Crawford in a Sox uni. Rowand44
Joe Crede is the easy answer. Most of us want Joe to get locked up long term and even if he isnt, he's still here through 08. Yes, Fields has been brought up as an outfielder and that would be in lf but if that happens we're going to have needed to find a leadoff hitter elsewhere. Josh is a good prospect and could easily be the centerpiece of a deal to land us something we really need this year.
Kalapse
Well first, we have Crede under control until after the '08 season so that shouldn't be a huge concern right now. Also he said that he will dictate any deal not his agent. One more thing on this, JR is not afraid to spend money and Crede is now emerging as a very good 3B, JR will give him what he deserves in a long term contract, no doubt. I don't think there's a lot of people who want to move Fields, the guy has finally turned it on this year and is absolutley kicking ass in AAA but if he can be moved for a very large piece, stud player, that could help the Sox win this year while we're still in prime position to compete for a title it has to be considered. Fields is a great prospect right now and it's great that he's comming around, hell it'd be awesome to see him replace Pods in LF eventually but if he can be moved for a stud major leaguer who would help solidify the big league team I'd be all for moving him in a trade. palesox38
I don't want anyone to misunderstand what I wrote. There's no doubt that I'de love to have Crede for the rest of his career if it would be possible, but Fields really could still fit in somewhere in the future, like OF, as we mentioned. I just think he's too valuable and I think it would really have to be a mega-deal for me to be OK with him leaving.
Dam8610
Having Crede combined with Fields's not so stellar 3B defense makes Fields somewhat expendable, plus the guys that people are talking about getting in exchange for him aren't going to come cheap. Say Carl Crawford or a great setup man (Scott Linebrink), like what has been discussed? Edited June 10, 2006 by Dam8610
