Dick Allen
What Garland has to realize is the reason is makes so much money, and will never ever have to work a real job is because people are interested. If he's sick of questions comparing this year and last year, then all he has to do is pitch a good game. There is a trade off for guys making all this money. You get grilled by the press. You get bombarded with autograph requests. You are most likely going to get bothered no matter where you go. If its something they don't like, and I wouldn't blame them, they should go find a different profession. Obviously, they like the money and find the other stuff a distraction worth the money they make. I think the White Sox and their fans have a whole lot more to complain about what with Garland going to make $29 million over the next 3 years, and his performance thus far, than Garland has about being asked the same question over and over. WCSox
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) Thats because everyone on this board and sports fans in general tend to over-react over every little thing... All the more reason for Jon to avoid talking about the fans entirely. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 02:27 PM) There is a trade off for guys making all this money. You get grilled by the press. G&T
Hey, on the plus side, he may waive the no-trade clause if the fans get on him enough.
YASNY
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 01:04 PM) or maybe you just minterpreted the quote... or maybe I did but it doesnt look like he is b****ing about fan expectations to me. To me he is saying the expectations are high and he isnt reaching them atm... and he knows it but is sick of being asked questions about it every game. And its dumb for people to say well if your sick of it why dont you start pitching better.... because that would be making the assumption he isnt trying to pitch good which is kind of dumb if you think about it. I'm with you on this one. I am reading these quotes the very same way, especially considering the Garland quotes that I added to the discussion. People call it whining. I just see it as answering questions.
