Konerko and Pierzynski were HS catchers drafted in '94 in the 1st and 3rd rounds, respectively.

Plus I think Konerko was a minor league player of the year (not 100% on that, but I think he was).

Konerko's minor league accomplishments include:

1997 Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year

1997 Player of the Year (Triple-A - Baseball America)

1997 Triple-A All-Star Team (Baseball America)

1997 Most Valuable Player (Pacific Coast League - AAA)

1997 Pacific Coast All-Star Team (AAA) (Third baseman)

1996 Double-A All-Star Team (Baseball America)

1996 Texas League All-Star Team (AA)

1994 Northwest League All-Star Team (A) (Designated hitter)

So yes you were correct, he was absolutely sick in '97.

And in 98 he came up early for the Dodgers when Karro's was injured, mashed the ball in spring training but than struggled out of the gate and Tommy Lasorda (Than GM) gave up on him way too quickly in the horrible Jeff Shaw deal (made like a day before the all star game as Shaw was supposed to pitch for the Reds in the ASG, but instead went with the Dodgers).

We than got him for Mike Cameron and my favorite player (I was a huge fan when he was with the Dodgers) made it over to the Sox.

I also think he played some 3B in the minors and who could forget the few games he saw at 3rd when Manuel was our manager.

TLAK, I believe you got the wrong Anderson. Our Anderson was drafted by us, not SF. ;)

Good catch! Just a typo. The later choices aren't in the Baseball Reference transaction table and I had to add it manually. I fixed it.

Wow, this just goes to show how great the MLB Draft is. A first rounder is just as big a question mark as a 54th rounder.

Hows this for a fact if the day: Ross Gload and Jim Thome were both drafted in the 13th round. Ha.

wow Politte at 54 is a pretty big shock.

It really doesn't matter where someone was drafted, there's too many baseball players and there are too many that don't come from the draft.

I hate the draft in the MLB, I love the NFL better.

Im the exact opposite... In MLB you can find good guys in any round and they rounds go by 100 times faster... While in the NFL outside of the 1st day you can find players that contribute but most of them are cut within a couple of years. A course there are exceptions but normally.
