kapkomet
Everyone, I just spent some time reading through last night's game thread. I'm not going to call out names here - but most of you will know who you are. The tone is HORRIBLE. I don't care how bad the Sox play, or how good they play, or who sucks, or who doesn't. The personal attacks when people disagree will STOP with tonight's game thread. To disagree with folks is one thing. To state an opinion (even negative ones) on things, even in the moment, is fine. But the tone (re: personal attacks and the like) in those threads has gotten much worse in the last couple of weeks and it needs to stop. Consider this a blanket warning. Those of you who may have crossed the line and could see some time off will hear from us in the next day or two. Take it as a 'soxtalk growing experience' and come back ready to post constructively. Thanks. Kap

Kalapse
The worst thing was the constant attacking of an opposing team's fan who was in the thread but not even posting. Talk about petty.
Capn12
VERY much, despite repeated attempts asking them to drop it, for some reason that guy was the target of unneccessary hostility
kapkomet
That's something I didn't address specifically but I will now. Ya'll should know by now if we think someone's trolling the site, they get whacked. Quickly. Leave us to do our jobs on that issue. Instead of calling out people like that (who, by the way can be a great poster even though they are Twins, Indians, Tiger fans, etc.) PM us if you all think there's a serious issue. Otherwise, leave them alone and we'll deal with them if they need dealt with. Thanks for bringing that up, Kalapse.
Greg Hibbard
I really think people need to regain a little perspective on what exactly a game means within a 162 game schedule and stop with the knee jerk reactions.

kapkomet
QUOTE(MSHAWKS @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 07:10 PM) Are you taslking about personal attacks against players or personal attacks against other posters? Both. 'So and so' sucks is fine (I personally don't like it, but it's within the bounds). 'So and so' is a worthless piece of s*** who needs to go @#%#%^ and @$#%#$^#$%&^ is not acceptable. SoxFan1
Wait, so we can't we flame people who start threads about position players pitching, firing hitting coaches, and about clutch 3rd basemen not being able to hit a lick while being injured? QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) Wait, so we can't we flame people who start threads about position players pitching, firing hitting coaches, SS's that suck at basdeball, questions about the teams heart, and about clutch 3rd basemen not being able to hit a lick while being injured? valponick
I used to keep the game threads open while I watched but I don't anymore because like kap pointed out the tone is poor. I also think this board could do without all of the F-Bombs and swearing in general. I have this site blocked when my nephews come over and get on the net to read about the sox. I am in the game threads a lot and IMO the attacks on players is way over the top.

That's pretty much one of the most unique thing about Soxtalk, it doesn't have ultra strict rules on vulgarity and such. Which is something you don't find at a lot of sites. kapkomet
I think cussing for the sake of cussing is childish, but we absolutely are not going to refrain ya'll from it. Most of you are old enough to know whether or not that language is acceptable. Whenever we post these sort of announcements, we have to have people question every nitpicky little detail of what is tolerated and what is not. USE COMMON SENSE. R-E-S-P-E-C-T. It's that simple. Garcia sucked last night. Fine. But I'm not going to sit here and rip him PERSONALLY for it. He didn't have it. Let's move on and not obsess. I'm just using that as an example. I'll leave this open for a few more comments and then close it. As I said, 99.5% of you know what's acceptable. Just use some sense, and if you're getting that pissed off, step away from the keyboard for a few minutes. It's not that hard.

The Ginger Kid
Game threads are a great place to get some insight, some laughs, and on bad days, to vent frustration. And lately frustration with the Sox seems to be very high. Ripping multi-million dollar athletes who are paid for my entertainment doesn't bother me, but the personal attacks on posters? Not good. DABearSoX
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 06:14 PM) Meh. All I'm asking is that people respect one another. That's it. I totally agree, I think we all learned this skill in kindergarten class. Its sad that sometimes people have to hide behind a computer screen and attack people out of frustration from a baseball game.

I agree with this completely. As long as vituperations, no matter how obscene, are directed at players and not other posters, whats the problem? Its not like any posters on this site are personal friends with any White Sox players. They might think they are, but they're not. Why the super-sensitivity when attacks on players are made personal? We have our reasons. You don't need to rip on players PERSONALLY. Rip on their performance all you want, but to rip on them personally does absolutely nothing but make this place look worse then it needs to. Thread closed. PM me if you have issues.
