VAfan
Don't blast me just for putting his name up here. But you have to ask, what would be the cost to rent Carlos Lee for the rest of the season? And who among our rivals might be likely to get him? (The Yankees.) I suppose the short answer to the price question is -- it doesn't matter b/c there's no way Ozzie would take him back. The secondary answer is -- why would we want him when switching to pitching and defense won us a World Series? So, I'm going to say an emphatic NO to my own post. Lee was a me-first ballplayer that can be a cancer to winning baseball, despite his offensive numbers (and in addition to his defensive deficiencies). BUT ... Wouldn't Lee stop teams from using lefties against us? Probably give us the best offense in MLB? Only weaken our outfield defense until we took the lead and could get the LIDRs in the game? I still vote NO, regardless of the price. But feel free to opine on the subject. Someone had to bring it up sooner or later.

Balta1701
I do not like the principle of giving up that much talent for a few months rental. The Brewers won't be just giving him away, they may even hope to resign him.
jackie hayes
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 05:43 PM) I do not like the principle of giving up that much talent for a few months rental. The Brewers won't be just giving him away, they may even hope to resign him. The only thing I've heard about it is that they looked into it, but gave up pretty quickly b/c of the price. I'm a big fan of Carlos, but it just won't work. He doesn't have a position, and more important, that bridge is charcoal.
maggsmaggs
KW implied he was a bad team player when he said we got rid of all the selfish players last year. KW and OG don't want him.

Drew
Burnt bridges aside, what he'd amount to on this team is a really expensive pinch-hitter when we've got three very good ones as it is in Mackowiak, Ozuna, and Cintron. Pass.
DBAHO
I think he'll end up at the Dodgers anyway. Ned Colletti wants to win now, and they have the prospects to get a deal done. Although if I was the Dodgers GM, I'd be hanging onto my prospects, because Ethier and Kemp are doing a fairly solid job for them.
GoodAsGould
I dont know how much of a "bad teamate" he is as in he just didnt fit in here.... Out of the Brewers camp Ive heard nothing but good things about him and ive heard teamates compliment him and one of them said Carlos Lee is a lot of the reason for his success in the majors... On the whitesox he lost his best friend Magglio... not only that but than there was a war of words between the franchise and his best friends... and lets face it.... as much as I love Ozzie, he isnt going to rub off to well on a lot of players. Al Lopez's Ghost
I would expect the Cubs to make a run at CLee. He always pounded the ball at Wrigley (of course that was against Cubs pitching) and they need some outfield punch. This was a new way to start a thread, though. Propose an idea that's unlikely, then disagree with it yourself. I think I'll try it. Let's fire Kenny - what has he done lately? We're just floating along, can't overtake the Tigers. But then, he did reconstruct the club and they did win the World Series. And we are playing around .650 ball and we would be in the playoffs if they started today, and this is a long season.... You know what, I think we should keep Kenny.

With the way Kemp is playing, I'd have Kemp or Kent starting at 3rd base, cause Kemp has been great as has Ethier.

southsider2k5
I think when Ozzie said he slid into second like his wife was playing SS, that pretty much ended any chance of Carlos playing for Ozzie/Kenny.

VAfan
Not sure why everyone assumed he'd replace Dye(??) -- he'd obviously replace BA with Pods moving over to CF -- but it looks like the poll is no one in favor. I agree. I just hope he doesn't end up in NY or Detroit.
