Comedians

I absolutley love stand-up comedy and I have a difficult time deciding exaclty who my number #1 favorite is. I can't decide between Jim Gaffigan, Lewis Black, and Dane Cook. Dane and Lewis bring alot of energy, but Jim's delivery is great (and Beyond The Pale is hilarious) and I haven't watched Dane Cook's Tourgasm yet but I can't wait to see it. They all have their strong points and I had a difficult time finding one thing they all have in common but I managed to- alot of their lines are completly random. Post your favorites as well, I'de like to know what comedians people like. By the way, for the Gaffigan fans, does anyone else think its about time this guy got an HBO special?

P.S.- I'm not a big Mitch Hedburg fan, is there anyone else who agrees?

I love David Cross and Mitch Hedburg, along with all the others you mentioned.

"excuse me do you know if this is the line to get the beer ? or the line to get the tickets to get the beer?" - David Cross

hahah classic.

It's so hard to actually find a "favorite". Even Jay Leno was great when he was stand-up only. But the ones I really love:

Bobcat Goldthwait

Eddie Izzard

The Amazing Johnathan

Dennis Miller (the old stuff, haven't heard him recently)

Jerry Seinfeld

Lewis Black

Jon Stewart

Steven Wright

John DiCrosta (saw him in Vegas recently and he was killing me! His bot on Zamfir is hysterical, especially with visuals)

Mitch Hedburg had brilliant material but I am not a fan of the delivery. He always sounded like he was reading cue cards.

Am I the only one who doesn't find Dane Cook too funny? I think he's very energetic and everything and some stuff he does gets me to laugh, but for the most part, I dont think his material is that good.

EDIT: George Carlin is the best ever.

70's and 80's Carlin is untouched by anyone IMO. :cheers

Of the modern-day comedians, Chris Rock and Dave Attell are probably my faves (the latter's stand-up is highly underrated, IMO). Also really like Foxworthy and that booze-bag Ron White. Larry the Cable Guy is just OK overall, but he's absolutely hilarious every once in a while.

Of the all-time crowd, Pryor and Murphy were fantastic. Those two and Rock are my Top 3 overall. EDIT: Have to add Cosby to that list as well.

My favorites would be Pablo Francisco and Dane Cook. Both are very good live with Dane Cook being the better of the two. Oh and Dave Attel.

Have you heard Pablo Francisco's acts about Las Vegas? And his pieces about movies and Ahhhnold are great too.

Ya, my only problem with him is that the 2nd time I saw him live (and it was quite a bit after the 1st time) was that a lot of his material was very similar (I like to see new stuff).

I agree. He repeats a lot of his stuff or takes old stuff and just changes it around a little. One of the reasons I like Mencia so much is that his stand up is different all the time.

I have many favorites. Two that come to mind immediately are Carlin and Steven Wright. Many others have been mentioned. One comedian this thread reminded me of is a guy I saw maybe 15 years ago. His name is Chris Bliss. I remember two things about him....

His act involved the crowd a lot, talking to people, asking them personal questions and making jokes off of that info. About 30 minutes into his show, a girl walked in late to join her friends, who were seated right up front. He stopped the show, made fun of her for just getting there and then decided to help her out. He said he would recap the show so far. He then proceeded to rattle everything he had discussed in a matter of a minute or two. He mentioned everyone in the audience he had interacted with and told her what they said and called them by name. All in the exact order it happened. This was not a canned act so this recap was unbelievable.

The second and most impressive thing about him is he ends his act juggling like you have never seen before. Click on the link below to see his performance. Trust me it is worth the look.
