Did Rove leave the country?????????

David Gregory asserted: "Mr. Bush dodged several questions about Karl Rove eluding prosecution in the CIA leak case."

A smart snob like Gregory should know the definition of elude.

Dictionary: Elude

Well, as far as I can tell, that is an accepted usage of the word "Elude". Not the most common one, but it's at least included by several dictionaries (not all).

The verb elude has 3 meanings:

Meaning #1: escape, either physically or mentally

Synonyms: evade, bilk

Meaning #2: be incomprehensible to; escape understanding by

Synonym: escape

Meaning #3: avoid or try to avoid fulfilling, answering, or performing (duties, questions, or issues)

Synonyms: hedge, fudge, evade, put off, circumvent, parry, skirt, dodge, duck, sidestep

Did he avoid the grand jury 5TIMES?????????????????????????????????????

Actually, I misread the original statement. Definition 1 of Elude should fit well with what Gergen was saying, as far as I can tell. He Eluded, evaded, escaped prosecution. All seem to fit to me.
